About Jack White

Jack White — born John Anthony Gillis — grew up in a large family with nine siblings. At 15 he began playing guitar after having already taught himself to play drums. From 1992 he studied music at Detroit's Cass Technical High School while also training in an upholstery workshop. In 1996 Jack opened his own upholstery shop, Third Man Upholstery. The colour scheme was, similar to his later label Third Man Records, yellow and black.

The first band Jack played guitar in was Two Part Resin. After Dominic Suchyta left the three-piece, only Jack and his colleague Brian Muldoon remained. The two continued as a duo and from the end of 1993 until 1996 played only guitar and drums. When Brian also lost interest in the band, Jack came up with the idea of putting his alleged sister Meg — to whom he was actually married for four years — on drums. Although she had no prior drumming experience, the two decided to continue as a new band, which they named The White Stripes. Riding the retro-band hype wave of 2002, the album released at the end of 2001, White Blood Cells, became their first major success and brought them international recognition. After the album was issued on CD in 2002, over a million copies were sold worldwide.
One of the most famous guitar riffs of all time is certainly the main riff of the White Stripes song Seven Nation Army. The song became especially popular among football fans in Germany during and after the 2006 World Cup and has since been sung by fans across Europe at sports events and music festivals. It was used, among other things, as entrance music at the 2008 European Football Championship.

From 1997 to 2011 Jack was the frontman of the garage-rock band, and since early 2012 he has been working as a solo artist. In addition to his solo project he is a member of the bands The Raconteurs and The Dead Wheather. In the Rolling Stone magazine's list "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" he is ranked number 70.

Jack's high-end electric guitars

During his time with the White Stripes Jack played a wealth of vintage electric guitars, for example a 1964 Montgomery Ward JB Hutto Airline, a 1970 Crestwood Astral II and a 1963 Airline Res-O-Glass. These instruments are no longer available. Later he also used guitars from Gretsch — for instance a White Penguin. With the Raconteurs he is often seen playing heavily modified Gretsch guitars that are very colourful and sometimes barely recognisable. In recent years Jack mostly plays a Telecaster by Fender, which he has continually customised to suit his needs and which is frequently used both in his solo project and with the Raconteurs. This guitar has since been released as a high-end signature model by Fender and, due to its unusual pickup configuration, fittingly bears the name Triplecaster.

The Fender Jack White Triplesonic Acoustasonic Telecaster

From acoustic shape-shifting to electric rhythm tones — this powerful guitar uses the revolutionary Acoustic Engine developed by Fender and Fishman, which combines a magnetic pickup with an undersaddle transducer to offer new sonic possibilities. The Acoustasonic Tele, christened the Triplesonic, sprang from Jack White's imagination and offers three distinct tonal worlds: acoustic, clean electric and overdrive electric, all of which can be shaped using the simple control of a master tone knob. With premium tonewoods such as a solid spruce top, an alder body and a maple neck and fretboard, this Acoustasonic delivers a truly first-class acoustic-electric tonal experience. A luxurious hard shell case is also included and provides top-level protection and security when travelling.

Jack White's amplifiers

Jack White predominantly uses models from Fender for his guitar amplification. In his honour Fender released a Jack White signature amplifier: the Panoverb, a combination of a 1964 Fender Vibroverb, a 1960 Fender Vibrasonic and a 1993 Fender Vibro-King. Here you'll find an overview of Jack's most important amplifiers.

The Fender Jack White Panoverb

Inspired by elements of three of Jack White's vintage amplifiers — a 1964 Vibroverb, a 1960 Vibrasonic and a 1993 Vibro-King — the Pano Verb amp offers many unique design features never before found in a Fender amplifier. Jack worked closely with Fender to develop the Pano Verb, a completely new and versatile tube amplifier like nothing you've heard before.
The Pano Verb's design reflects the iconic yellow-black-white look of Third Man Records, so it looks as incredible as it sounds. The Pano Verb, a Fender product made in Corona, California, USA, is destined to become a modern classic for musicians seeking a distinctive sound for stage and studio.
