The Electro Harmonix Big Muff is one of the classic distortion machines. It was one of the first pedals to deliver a harmonious, tube-like distortion sound, and so it is not surprising that it was preferred by guitarists who value beautiful overdrive sounds. The almost violin-like sustain is typical of the Big Muff. Santana is said to have used it on the first records, Jimi Hendrix had at least one, and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd still uses the part in his extensive effects collection.
