Martin Guitars
The company C.F. Martin & Co., or simply Martin Guitars, can look back on a long company tradition and several innovative inventions. Chief among these is the development of the Dreadnought body shape and thus the steel‑string acoustic guitar as we know it today. With its more than 175‑year history, the family company has shaped the music world to this day. Other innovations that Martin helped make standard in guitar building include guitars with 14 frets clear of the body as well as X-Bracing. The latter uses glued braces on the inside of the body top (soundboard) to provide greater stability and load-bearing capacity to the top. To this day, Martin guitars are renowned for their high quality and, of course, for their tone, and are very popular with guitarists.

Martin Guitars – Made to Play!
There are many guitar brands. Different shapes, colours, materials and, of course, different tones. But above all there is one thing: different stories. Every brand has its history, its origins, its artists, its songs. And while today’s social‑media world is full of young, up‑and‑coming musicians who, using the latest technology, play licks, chords or whole songs to show them to the world, new and innovative brands are increasingly stepping into the limelight.
But at some point every guitarist reaches the same moment: the moment when they pick up a steel‑string acoustic guitar that not only instantly presents its character but also seems to summon the entire history of music to mind. The moment guitarists never forget: the moment you play a Martin acoustic guitar for the first time.
It’s more than an instrument. The first test chords immediately bring masterpieces like Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” or Tracy Chapman’s “Talkin’ ’bout a Revolution” to mind and feel like coming home. The wide tonal range, the clear trebles and the powerful, warm basses resonate familiarly through the room.
A short detour into a single‑line lick and suddenly you can hear Clapton calling out to the audience: “See if you can spot this one” before he dives into the iconic “Layla Unplugged”, played, of course, on a Martin.
Craftsmanship meets music history!
Martin guitars have shaped music history like almost no other brand, and that hasn't changed to this day. In the lobby of the Martin factory in Nazareth, USA, where even now most Martin instruments are still hand‑made to the highest standards, thousands of CDs hang on the walls: records on which Martin guitars were played. You'll find them all there: Eric Clapton, the Beatles, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Jimmy Page, Kurt Cobain, and also modern artists like John Mayer, Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes have recorded their most famous albums with Martin guitars. Some of them have even received slightly modified models as signature instruments and proudly play them on stages around the world.
We at session love it too — the sound of a D-X1, D-18, 000-EC, OMJM and, of course, the noble D-45 and Custom Shop models. That’s why we have one of the largest Martin ranges in our webshop on session.de and in our stores in Walldorf and Frankfurt. But beware: you won't find just another guitar here. You’ll find your dream instrument.
And now the author of this text must, sadly, come to an end: his Martin OM-28 is waiting.
