Martin D-28
The D-28, together with the D-18, is the oldest mass-produced Dreadnought acoustic guitar and is one of the best-known models from the American manufacturer Martin Guitars. The D-28 has been produced as a standard model since 1932 and is still made today in an almost unchanged form.
As top wood, Sitka spruce is most commonly used today, combined with Martin's characteristic X-Bracing. For the back and sides, Indian rosewood is now usually used, which gives the D-28 a warm fundamental tone. Depending on the model variant, various other varieties of the tonewoods are also used. Also standard is a mahogany neck with an ebony fretboard, which provides a comfortable playing feel.
Many artists, including John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan, have discovered the Martin D-28; it is also very popular with hobby and studio guitarists. Therefore it is not surprising that Martin Guitars offers the D-28 in numerous model variants and finishes.
