TLM 103 - 25 Years edition
In 2022 the TLM 103 will celebrate its 25th anniversary - it has long been a modern classic! When it came onto the market in 1997, the TLM 103 was a sensation: real Neumann quality at a price affordable for home and project studio users. It also caused a stir among professional sound engineers due to its unparalleled performance: with its extremely low self-noise of just 7 dB-A, the TLM 103 set new standards.

The 25 Years edition is reminiscent of the “industrial” aesthetic of the late 90s when the TLM 103 was developed, and comes in a striking “raw but refined” titanium look. The TLM 103 - 25 Years edition comes with an elastic suspension EA 4 in black and in a practical aluminum case. The edition is limited to 500 pieces.

A MODERN CLASSIC
The TLM 103 quickly became one of the greatest successes in Neumann history. With its clean, crystal-clear sound , it is a modern update of the classic U 87. The TLM 103 is a transformer-less, extremely low-noise large-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone; a gentle presence boost ensures breathtaking sound definition.

Its capsule is based on the classic K67/87 design of the legendary Neumann U 87. However, the TLM 103 received a slightly more modern voicing with a broadband presence boost above 5 kHz. Its very direct, yet cultivated sound is perfect for voices and solo instruments that need to assert themselves effortlessly in the mix. Of course, it has that famous midrange definition that has made Neumann microphones the first choice in all top studios worldwide. A unique feature of the TLM 103 is its impressively deep, yet well-controlled bass transmission - perfect for sonorous voices and powerful bass instruments.

TECHNICAL MASTERPIECE
The TLM 103 has also set new standards on the technical side. With a noise level of just 7 dB-A, it is one of the lowest-noise microphones ever. Its high sensitivity of 23 mV/Pa also ensures that low-noise results can be achieved even in conjunction with inexpensive preamps and audio interfaces or Vintage tube equipment. At the same time, the TLM 103 can handle enormous sound pressure levels of up to 138 dB without the need for pre-attenuation . Its huge dynamic range of 131 dB makes it extremely easy to use, as the TLM 103 captures every sound source from a gentle whisper to a thunderous measurements bd (set only) without adding noise or distortion.

Like all microphones in the TLM series , the TLM 103 works with an electronically balanced output stage that minimizes transmission losses and guarantees a very direct, unadulterated sound . Even at the highest levels, the bass remains powerful.

APPLICATIONS
The TLM 103 was primarily developed for project studios and broadcast applications, but due to its outstanding technology and brilliant sound, it soon found its place in famous studios as a modern sound alternative to the U 87, especially for language, vocals, drums, guitar amps and piano. It is also often used as a support microphone for classical recordings, for example for cello or double bass.
