The electric guitars from the RG series are among the best-selling and therefore among the most popular instruments from the Japanese guitar manufacturer Ibanez. The success story of the RG guitar begins in 1987 with a modification of the signature electric guitar model Ibanez JEM by the American guitarist Steve Vai .
The abbreviation RG stands for "Roadstar Guitar" . If you consider that the series has been continuously manufactured and continuously developed since its market launch, then the Roadstar guitar machines have definitely put their horsepower on the road.
The Ibanez RG guitars are particularly popular with metal guitarists . The very thin and easy-to-play “Wizard” guitar necks made of maple are responsible for this. In combination with the slim body with its iconic horns and the large cutaways, the electric guitars can be played very quickly and easily and can also be played easily in the high pitches.
The fingerboards on Ibanez RG guitars are often made of rosewood or maple wood and are equipped with 24 frets. Modifications, such as the RDG series with its extended scale length of 672 mm instead of the usual 648 mm, of course have additional frets . The body is usually made of basswood or mahogany, more rarely other wood such as ash or maple. The Edge tremolo system , an HHS pickup with two humbuckers and a single coil pickup as well as the 5-way switch with tone and volume controls for versatile switching options are firmly linked to the RG series .
The Ibanez RG is available in different variations, as an inexpensive Gio version (GRG), as a downtuning model (RGD), as an arch top type (RGA) or with a reversed headstock (RGR). In addition to the standard series , the Ibanez RG is available as a Prestige Line or as a high-end instrument in the J.Custom version.
Special features of the RG series:
- RG form
- big cutaway
- Wizard guitar neck
- Edge tremolo system
- HHS pickup assembly
- 5-speed circuit
The Japanese instrument manufacturer Ibanez can look back on a long tradition in guitar and bass building. While Ibanez initially stood out with idiosyncratic copies of traditional models from manufacturers such as Gibson and Fender , independent series gradually came onto the market, such as the Iceman, JEM, Artcore and RG. In the 1980s, the manufacturer made a name for itself, especially in the heavy sector, with its instruments that shone with modern features, individual design and excellent playability. Innovations such as the 7- and 8-string guitars, which emerged from the fruitful collaboration with artists such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Meshuggah, did the rest to establish Ibanez 's good reputation. Today the manufacturer offers an extensive range, ranging from entry-level guitars and basses to unusual custom shop models. Ibanez also knows how to impress when it comes to effects devices and amplifier model , as the classic TS9 Tubescreamer proves. With us you will find a comprehensive selection of guitars, basses, amplifiers, effects and accessories from Ibanez.
