The Gibson Orianthi SJ-200 in detail

About the artist

The Australian with Greek roots learned to play the guitar at the age of six and was playing the electric guitar at the age of eleven. In 2003, at the age of 18, she was discovered by Carlos Santana when she was allowed to play at his sound check. Afterwards he even brought her on stage at the following performance. Appearances with Prince and ZZ Top followed, among others, and she was part of the opening act on Steve Vai's world tour in 2007. That same year, she released her debut album Violet Journey and became the youngest guitarist to perform at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival. Orianthi achieved her international breakthrough in 2009 when she first accompanied Carrie Underwood at the Grammys and was then chosen by Michael Jackson to be the backing band for his farewell concerts. Their second album Believe and the single According to You were successful in the USA and Australia. She played in Alice Cooper's touring band from 2011 to 2014. In 2014 she was inducted into the South Australian Music Hall Of Fame. From 2014 to 2018 she played in Richie Sambora's band and recorded a studio album with him under the project name RSO .

A hot guitar for hot guitarists

In January 2010, Orianthi released their first signature model in collaboration with PRS Guitars: the Orianthi SE. Now Orianthi has a new Gibson Signature model and it's also a blast. The acoustic guitar with an SJ-200 body with a AAA Sitka spruce top and AAA flamed maple back and an ES-345 neck is clearly something different than a standard SJ-200. Other personal touches include an ebony fretboard with lotus inlays on the neck and a mother-of-pearl Orianthi O symbol on the headstock, gold Grover Keystone tuning machines, the signature cherry finish with nitrocellulose lacquer and an LR Baggs Orianthi pickup system, whose sound is specially designed for Orianthi was adjusted. The saturation of the system is adjustable and the controls are located on the sound opening, so that the beautiful flamed rib does not have to be broken by the control element for the pickup system.

About Gibson

The US Gibson Guitar Corporation, founded in 1902 by Orville Gibson in Kalamazoo, Michigan, was initially known for production mandolins and banjos. Today the company's headquarters are in Nashville, Tennessee and Gibson is one of the world's most well-known and renowned manufacturers of electric guitars.

The Les Paul model , named after its creator Lester William Polsfuss, is one of the most famous and best-selling electric guitar shapes of all time and founded the design of the single cut guitar, which has been copied, adopted and reinterpreted by numerous other manufacturers. The Les Paul is primarily valued for its warm and powerful sound . The humbucker pickup responsible for this, in its common design today, was also developed by Seth Lover at Gibson .

At the beginning of the 1960s, another solid body electric guitar from Gibson appeared, the Gibson SG . Initially intended as a successor to the Les Paul, it became another icon of rock history, thanks in part to Angus Young from AC/DC, and is the basis for the double cut guitar type .

With the Flying V and the Explorer , Gibson is responsible for two body shapes that were far ahead of their time at the time of their release in the late 1950s, but which also achieved legendary status over the years. To this day they also serve as the basis for a variety of heavy guitars , for example from manufacturers such as Jackson or ESP.

The Gibson custom shop produces commissioned work , high-quality one-off pieces and exact replicas of famous models and legendary vintages of their instruments. These are often subjected to an artificial aging process called relicing.

Acoustic guitars have also been produced for almost as long as the company has existed. The J-45 , the Hummingbird , the L-00 and the SJ-200 are among the most popular acoustic guitars in the world and were the instrument of choice for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and John Lennon.

In addition to the instruments already mentioned, you can of course also buy picks , bags and cases or merchandise from Gibson from us.

We are particularly proud to have a Gibson flagship store in our Frankfurt branch. There you will not only find a large selection and exclusive models to try out directly, but you will also benefit from the expertise of our Gibson -trained and certified employees when it comes to advice on the perfect guitar.
