Fenders berühmte, in Mexiko gefertigte Player-Serie war seit ihrer Einführung eine feste Größe innerhalb der großen Fender-Produktpalette. Player-Gitarren und -Bässe erfreuten sich insbesondere bei ambitionierten Anfängern und fortgeschritten, budgetorientierten Gitarristen großer Beliebtheit. Wie bei der Vorgänger-Serie setzt Fender auch bei den Player II-Modellen wieder auf das Motto „Weniger ist mehr“: Die Gitarren bestehen zwar aus den selben, hochwertigen Hölzern wie ihre Verwandten aus den USA, bei der Technik wurde allerdings auf unnötigen Schick-Schnack verzichtet und der Fokus eher auf guten Klang und eine verbesserte Spielbarkeit gelegt. Dabei herausgekommen sind E-Bässe und E-Gitarren, die zwar unverkennbar dem Vintage-Fender-Look nacheifern, aber ebenso mit einem modernen Sound und Spielkomfort überzeugen können.
