Buy electric bass at session

With the advent of the electric guitar in the 1950s, the double basses previously used in bands faced a problem - they could no longer really assert themselves in terms of volume and an alternative was needed. The solution to the problem came from Fender in 1951 and was called the Fender Precision Bass , or P-Bass for short. Instead of a comparatively huge, hollow body, a solid piece of alder or ash was used as the body, similar to the Fender Telecaster released a year earlier. Thanks to its smaller size , the bassist was able to comfortably play the electric bass with a strap instead of standing upright. The vibration of the strings is picked up by the pickup and sent to a bass amplifier . At the beginning of the 1960s, the Fender Jazz Bass appeared, which had two separate pickup and thus enabled finer sound settings. Thanks to the new variety of sound and playing options, many virtuoso electric bassists soon appeared and the bass went from being a simple rhythm instrument to being a front-row instrument . The standard electric bass has four strings and is tuned like the electric guitar, EADG, only an octave lower, which is why significantly thicker strings are used here.

The electric bass, also known as the bass guitar , as it was once developed by Leo Fender , has changed and developed a lot since its market launch. In addition to the simple, traditional construction known from a Fender Precision or Jazz Bass, with a screwed maple neck and a body made of ash or alder, new constructions with a variety of precious woods such as ebony, buckeye burl or strikingly grained maple were also added. The neck-body connections have also become more and more complex, so electric bass manufacturers like Ibanez or manufacturers like Marleaux repeatedly have models with glued-in or continuous necks in their product portfolio. Active electronics were soon developed for a stronger and more assertive sound , often with a built-in equalizer for even more diverse sound options.

Furthermore, the electric bass was also adapted to the sound spectrum of modern music, which led to the development of 5-string and 6-string basses . In the case of Dingwall , fanned fingerboards , also known as multiscale , are used to improve the intonation and transparency of the individual notes. For seamless and absolutely smooth slides and fret changes, there are fretless basses , which do not require any frets and are particularly popular in jazz.
