Buy single cut guitar models at session

Do you want to buy a new electric guitar and prefer a mid-range sound with a lot of pressure ? Then single cut guitars are a good place to start. The name comes from the one-sided recess , which enables better playability of the high frets .

The basis for this type of guitar is the Les Paul from the US manufacturer Gibson and was their first solidbody guitar . As a reaction to the instruments of its competitor Fender , it was created in collaboration with the jazz guitarist Lester William Polfus , who was also the original inspiration for the instrument . Well-known users of single cut guitars include Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, Slash from Guns 'n' Roses, Gary Moore and Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top.

The guitar, affectionately known as “ Paula ”, traditionally consists of a mahogany body with a maple top and a mahogany neck with a glued-on rosewood or ebony fretboard ; the scale length is slightly shorter than on Fender guitars. It is worth mentioning that the neck connection is glued and not screwed . Many fans of the LP design swear by the improved vibration behavior of the wooden components. It is also extremely rare to find a tremolo on a single cut; a two-part Tune-O-Matic bridge screwed into the body is usually used. The amplified sound is provided by two humbucker pickup , each of which is controlled via a volume and a tone potentiometer. The three-way switches allows the pickups to be played individually or together.

GIBSON Les Paul Cherry Burst Due to its construction, the production of mahogany and the use of humbuckers, a single cut guitar tends to be heavier and the sound is more pronounced in the low-mid range or - to stay in guitar jargon - fatter. Terms like “warm” and “full” are often used to describe the sound of a single cut. If you want, you can swap the pickups on your single cut, for example with the Zakk Wylde set from EMG . Of course, you can also find pickup for electric guitars and other useful electric guitar accessories here.

Gibson offers Les Paul guitars with different equipment and in different price ranges. The cheaper Studio series, for example, dispenses with decorations and external features, but retains the typical sound . The Traditional series refers to the early models in terms of equipment and construction, while components and manufacturing methods are changed in the Standard series.

The Gibson custom shop is recommended to all fans of Vintage instruments. Authentic reproductions of guitars from classic Les Paul vintages such as 1958, 1959 or 1960 are offered here, of course also with artificial signs of wear, called Relic .

If you are looking for an inexpensive alternative to the “real” single cut Gibson Les Paul , you should take a closer look at the instruments from its subsidiary Epiphone . But of course other manufacturers such as Gretsch , Duesenberg , Rock N Roll Relics or ESP also offer a wide variety of single cut guitars for a wide variety of applications.
