Product information

Sometimes the innovation is in the details, and that's certainly the case with Martin 's redesigned D-28. After nearly a century at the helm and as the quintessential workhorse of music legends such as Hank Williams, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and many others, Martin's legendary D-28 has been lovingly and artfully refined. "The postwar D-28 had a slightly different look than its predecessor and became the centerpiece of the folk and folk-rock movement at its peak in the 1950s and 1960s." says Chris Martin, Chairman and CEO of Martin Guitar, "We've distilled the best features of the D-28 from my grandfather's and my father's respective eras." The new D-28 combines the guitar's rich history with Martin's latest and best-known innovations. The 184-year-old luthier has combined Vintage features including open tuning machines, an aged tone top, antique white accents and a tortoiseshell pickguard with a new neck profile to give D-28 lovers a modern feel and comfortable playing experience. Martin also added forward bracing to allow for greater top swing. The legend just got better!

About Martin D-28

The D-28, together with the D-18, is the oldest series -produced dreadnought western guitar and is one of the best-known models from the American manufacturer Martin Guitars. The D-28 has been in series production since 1932 and is still manufactured in almost unchanged form today.

Today, Sitka spruce is usually used as the top wood, in combination with the X-bracing that is characteristic of Martin guitars. Today , Indian rosewood is usually used for the bottom and sides, which gives the D-28 a warm basic sound. Depending on the type , various other subspecies of tonewoods are also used. Also standard is a mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard , which ensures a comfortable playing feel.

Many artists, including John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan, have discovered the Martin D-28, and the guitar is also very popular with amateur and studio guitarists. It is therefore not surprising that Martin Guitars offers the D-28 in numerous model variants and finishes.

About Martin

The company CF Martin & Co., or Martin Guitars for short, can look back on a long company tradition and some innovative inventions. This primarily includes the development of the dreadnought form and thus the western guitar as we know it today. The family business, with its history spanning over 175 years, has shaped the music world to this day. The innovations that Martin made standard in guitar construction include guitars with 14 frets outside the body and X-bracing. This allows the top to be more stable and max. weight capacity thanks to glued strips on the inside of the carcass ceiling. To this day , Martin guitars are famous for their high quality and of course their sound and are very popular among guitarists. You can find a large selection ready to play in our shop or in our branches. In our Martin premium western guitar section you will also find a selection of the highest quality western guitar models from all Martin series.

The name of the US company Martin Guitars, actually CF Martin & Co., Inc., has stood for the highest quality and innovations in the construction of stringed instruments since 1833. When everyone thinks of Martin , everyone immediately thinks of the western guitar, as the company founder and German emigrant Christian Friedrich Martin helped the instruments take on the form that we still know and appreciate today. The company's inventions include special bracing (X-bracing), the neck transition at the 14th fret and popular body shapes such as the dreadnought guitar.
