Buy saxophones at session

Are you looking for an expressive wind instrument and are you planning to buy a new one in the near future? Then you should take a closer look at the versatile saxophone family. You can take action straight away in our webshop. We have put together the most common types of saxophones and useful accessories from various manufacturers for you. The most popular models include the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone .

Contrary to their external appearance, saxophones belong to the family of woodwind instruments . This fact is due to the reed and is not due to the body material used - brass - from which most saxophones are made. The saxophone reed is originally composition of wood and is attached to the mouthpiece using a so-called leaf screw . However, saxophone reeds are a dime a dozen. In order to better inform yourself about the different strengths and materials before purchasing, we have put together a detailed article about “The Saxophone Reed” in our guides section.

The soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone belong to the group of transposing musical instruments. This means that the sounding pitch does not correspond to the notated one and the musician himself has to transpose the notes into the corresponding key . Despite their conical design, which is identical for the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxes, the saxophones mentioned can still be distinguished visually and in their pitch range . Each of the four saxophone types impresses its player with different and expressive characteristics.

The soprano and baritone saxophones couldn't be more different in terms of their size and pitch range . While the soprano saxophone is the smallest of its kind and sounds in the high registers, the baritone saxophone is the largest of the saxophone family and is used to play the lower tones. With the alto and tenor saxophones we again have two true all-rounders on our hands and in our mouths. Both saxophone models are also different sizes and sound different, but are still more widespread than their large and small siblings. We have summarized further differences between the four models of the saxophone family mentioned for you in our informative guides text “Differentiating types of saxophones” .

When buying your saxophone, you should pay attention not only to the desired pitch and the corresponding quality , but also to its ease of use . You should be physically able to hold the saxophone. When buying, make sure that it is not too heavy or even too big for your height. You should be able to easily reach all keys on your instrument . A practical strap helps you keep a firm grip on the saxophone, even when playing for long periods of time.
