Universal Audio uses component-based modeling algorithms in this device, which are also used in their well-known DSP plug-ins. The pedal features a Flanger Doubler, chorus Brigade and Trem 65. These effects were carefully modeled after the analog originals, the MSR Flager/Doubler , the Boss CE-1 and an optical, tube-driven tremolo from a 1960s Fender amplifier . When registering the pedal, the Dharma Trem 61 and Phaser X90 can be added. These effects are based on a Harmonic tremolo and the MXR Phase 90 . Each effect type has two variations and one storage space. A tap tempo function and stereo inputs and outputs are housed in the device. The connections on all UAFX pedals are on the head side.
DSP power in the pedal
This pedal combines various modulation effects - based on their Vintage classics - in a variety of ways. Here you have access to authentically simulated classics: phaser, tremolo, flanger and chorus . Compared to the plugins, the Astra Modulations Machine does not require any external computer control. The clearly structured and accessible user interface with its six controllers, three miniature switches and two foot switches invites you to tinker and tweak. A highly efficient modeling code and a two-core signal processor help calculate the individual effects . The two variants of the effect types can be adjusted using the controls . The respective setting is saved per effect type.

Founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam Sr., Universal Audio has always been synonymous with innovative recording equipment . A favorite engineer of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and others, Bill was a passionate innovator who is considered the Vater of modern audio recording. Many of his legendary studio and equipment designs are still used today. B. Putnam was the inventor of the modern Sound console , des Multiband audio equalizer and he was the first engineer to artificial reverberation used in commercial recordings. Alongside his friend Les Paul, Bill was also involved in the early development of stereophonic recording.
Putnam, known as a busy entrepreneur, founded three audio product companies during his long career: Universal Audio , Studio Electronics and Urei . All three companies built equipment that was widely used upon introduction and would shape studio sound for generations. Universal Audio was re-founded in 1999 by Bill's sons James Putnam and Bill Putnam Jr. A twofold approach was planned: On the one hand, the classic analogue recording devices were to be faithfully reproduced in the tradition of his father; and on the other hand, the sound and spirit of Vintage analog technology should be in the new digital recording tools are used.
