About Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton was born in 1945 in Ripley in the English county of Surrey. He dropped out of his art studies at Kingston University in London after a short time to join his first band, The Roosters, in January 1963 at the age of 17. After the band broke up, he became the guitarist of the Yardbirds in October 1963, with whom he recorded their biggest hit For Your Love in early 1965. However, Eric disliked the group's new musical direction. After leaving the Yardbirds in April 1965, he joined the Bluesbreakers. He took part in the recording of the album Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton, on which he played some groundbreaking solos. At this time he was strongly influenced by B. B. King.

Eric recorded his first solo album in 1970. He also often played on other musicians' recordings during this time and subsequently founded the group Derek and the Dominos, which recorded the double album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, featuring Duane Allman as a guest soloist. The album is strongly influenced by the blues and is still regarded as one of Eric Clapton's best albums, particularly because of the interplay between the two outstanding guitarists. The title track Layla is one of the most played rock songs of the 1970s.

Eric continued to play on numerous studio recordings by friends such as John Lennon and Billy Preston and with Howlin' Wolf on his London session. During this time he became addicted to heroin. In 1971, Clapton took part in George Harrison's concert for Bangladesh, during which he collapsed on stage. After treatment for his addiction, Eric began recording albums again in the 1980s and has released over 20 to date.
Eric's album Unplugged, recorded live during the MTV show of the same name, was released in 1992. The MTV Unplugged session earned him six Grammys in 1993, including Best Song of the Year for Tears in Heaven and Best Album of the Year for the album Unplugged.
In this unplugged session, Eric Clapton was accompanied by a very special guitar, which is now being reissued for an equally special celebration.

Eric Clapton's famous steel-string acoustic guitar

At his MTV Unplugged session, Eric played his beloved Martin 000-28, an instrument that has been his constant companion and has been instrumental in the success of Eric's career. As a loyal Martin player, Eric was given his own signature model from Martin, a 000-28 of course, in recognition of his musical achievements. Eric Clapton has now been working with Martin Guitars for 30 years. To mark this anniversary, Martin Guitars has come up with something very special: A special anniversary edition of Eric's favourite guitar: the 000-EC Eric Clapton Signature 30th Anniversary in a strictly limited edition.

New specifications for the 30th anniversary

This instrument is inspired by the pre-war guitar that Eric played during his legendary MTV Unplugged performance. It has a top made of spruce and back and sides made of East Indian rosewood, naturally in a solid finish. This guarantees the best Martin 000 sound. The neck is made of mahogany and has a vintage 1939 profile, which ensures the best playing comfort. The visual details are also impressive: the fingerboard features Golden Era 42-style snowflake inlays, which give the guitar a classy, stylish look. Of course, a Martin guitar modelled on a vintage 000-28 should not be without the characteristic white binding with herringbone inlay. This limited edition instrument is supplied in an original Martin hardshell case.

About Martin

The company CF Martin & Co., or Martin Guitars for short, can look back on a long company tradition and some innovative inventions. This primarily includes the development of the dreadnought form and thus the western guitar as we know it today. The family business, with its history spanning over 175 years, has shaped the music world to this day. The innovations that Martin made standard in guitar construction include guitars with 14 frets outside the body and X-bracing. This allows the top to be more stable and max. weight capacity thanks to glued strips on the inside of the carcass ceiling. To this day , Martin guitars are famous for their high quality and of course their sound and are very popular among guitarists. You can find a large selection ready to play in our shop or in our branches. In our Martin premium western guitar section you will also find a selection of the highest quality western guitar models from all Martin series.

The name of the US company Martin Guitars, actually CF Martin & Co., Inc., has stood for the highest quality and innovations in the construction of stringed instruments since 1833. When everyone thinks of Martin , everyone immediately thinks of the western guitar, as the company founder and German emigrant Christian Friedrich Martin helped the instruments take on the form that we still know and appreciate today. The company's inventions include special bracing (X-bracing), the neck transition at the 14th fret and popular body shapes such as the dreadnought guitar.

In addition to the classics such as the D, OM, J, 000 models, our range also includes custom shop models - as well as signature models from renowned artists such as Ed Sheeran, Eric Clapton or John Mayer. We also have the popular Martin Backpacker Steel and the Little Martin in our range.

Of course, we also carry a wide range of accessories such as the extremely popular strings from Martin. Our staff looks forward to your visit and will be happy to provide you with detailed advice.
