Ibanez TOD10NL-TKF Tim Henson Lefthand
The Ibanez TOD10NL-TKF in detail
About Tim Henson
In 2011, Tim Henson founded the band Polyphia together with his co-guitarist Scott LePage, bassist Clay Gober, drummer Brandon Burkhalter and singer Lane Duskin. The group released their debut EP Resurrect the same year. A year later Lane Duskin left the band and Polyphia continued as an instrumental group. From the start Tim Henson’s inventiveness and distinctive playing technique were cornerstones of the Polyphia sound. After another EP, the band used crowdfunding to release their debut album Muse in 2014. Polyphia were then signed to Equal Vision Records, who reissued the debut album in 2015. In autumn 2015 the band toured the US with Invent, Animate and headliners Erra. In 2022 the band released their fourth studio album Remember That You Will Die, featuring guest musicians including Steve Vai. The album entered the US album charts at No. 33. Online magazine Loudwire placed Remember That You Will Die on their list of the 50 best rock and metal albums of 2022 and named Playing God Song of the Year 2022.
You can rock with nylon strings too
The TOD10NL-TKF in a left-handed version is, unlike Tim’s other Ibanez signature guitars, an acoustic with nylon strings, but it’s not a conventional classical guitar. It has a noticeably shallower body, featuring a solid Sitka spruce top with back and sides in sapele. Thanks to the sound port in the side you can hear yourself much better while playing. The TOD10NL-TKF’s neck with a slim C profile is made of Nato, and the walnut fretboard is adorned with the eponymous Mother-of-Pearl Tree of Life inlay. The built-in Ibanez AEQ210TF preamp with integrated tuner delivers the perfect amplified sound. The top finished in Transparent Black Flat, the pearloid body binding and the gold-plated tuners showcase this special instrument perfectly and give it a refined, high-quality look. Tim used this guitar to record, among other things, the song Playing God, which you can hear in this video.
Olli follows up
Olli also took a closer look at the Ibanez new releases and, of course, the TOD10N-TKF, and he grilled an Ibanez expert with questions about the new model on your behalf. Here you can watch the result and find out, in passing, which Ibanez model the TOD10N is based on, how it manages to sound so amazingly good even without a traditional sound hole, and where the name Tree of Death originates.

The Ibanez FRH series is designed for guitarists who want nylon string sounds and electric guitar-like playability at the same time. The compact and thin body, excellent access to the high frets and the combination of a narrow 46mm nut and a 400mm fretboard radius contribute to excellent playability. The guitars in the series have less feedback as they do not have a sound hole on the body top, making them perfect for stage and home use. The sound port on the body side allows you to feel and hear the pure acoustic tone of this guitar more clearly and directly.
In their short history, the Ibanez FRH concert guitars have not only impressed amateur guitarists, but also many professional players, such as Scott Le Page and Tim Henson from the instrumental band Polyphia. Tim Henson even got his own signature model with the TOD10-N, which is based on the FRH guitars.
The Japanese instrument manufacturer Ibanez can look back on a long tradition in guitar and bass building. While Ibanez initially stood out with idiosyncratic copies of traditional models from manufacturers such as Gibson and Fender , independent series gradually came onto the market, such as the Iceman, JEM, Artcore and RG. In the 1980s, the manufacturer made a name for itself, especially in the heavy sector, with its instruments that shone with modern features, individual design and excellent playability. Innovations such as the 7- and 8-string guitars, which emerged from the fruitful collaboration with artists such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Meshuggah, did the rest to establish Ibanez 's good reputation. Today the manufacturer offers an extensive range, ranging from entry-level guitars and basses to unusual custom shop models. Ibanez also knows how to impress when it comes to effects devices and amplifier model , as the classic TS9 Tubescreamer proves. With us you will find a comprehensive selection of guitars, basses, amplifiers, effects and accessories from Ibanez.
