The Ibanez JEM in detail

About Steve Vai

Steve Vai doesn't really need any introduction, he should actually be known to every ambitious electric guitarist. Whether in his legendary stints as Frank Zappa's guitarist for special sounds and solos, in his time alongside Whitesnake and David Lee Roth, through to contributions to various soundtracks and an extremely successful solo career, Steve Vai, born in New York in 1960, has the Redefined the limits of the electric guitar - if there are any limits at all for him. Even today, Steve is still very busy and doesn't shy away from any musical challenges. His collaboration with Ibanez also resulted in some of the most successful signature guitars of all time.

Steve Vai's oldest signature model

The Ibanez JEM is the oldest of Steve Vai's signature Ibanez guitars and has been in production for over 35 years. A successor model, the PIA, is already on the market and is enjoying great popularity. The JEM is typically Steve Vai, a Modern ST guitar with a body made of Meranti, which is particularly characterized by its low weight and ergonomic form . The slim neck in the Wizard III profile allows for fast, fatigue-free playing for long periods of time. The Jatoba fretboard is adorned with the classic Tree of Life inlay designed by Steve himself. The pickups on all JEMs are in-house Ibanez pickups with HSH components, which Steve loves to play. You can get to know all the other features in the video on the right, in which Steve introduces you to his JEM.

About Ibanez

The Japanese instrument manufacturer Ibanez can look back on a long tradition in guitar and bass building. While Ibanez initially stood out with idiosyncratic copies of traditional models from manufacturers such as Gibson and Fender , independent series gradually came onto the market, such as the Iceman, JEM, Artcore and RG. In the 1980s, the manufacturer made a name for itself, especially in the heavy sector, with its instruments that shone with modern features, individual design and excellent playability. Innovations such as the 7- and 8-string guitars, which emerged from the fruitful collaboration with artists such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Meshuggah, did the rest to establish Ibanez 's good reputation. Today the manufacturer offers an extensive range, ranging from entry-level guitars and basses to unusual custom shop models. Ibanez also knows how to impress when it comes to effects devices and amplifier model , as the classic TS9 Tubescreamer proves. With us you will find a comprehensive selection of guitars, basses, amplifiers, effects and accessories from Ibanez.
