Product information

The D-55, first introduced as a top-of-the-line, special-order model in 1968, was so well received that Guild added it to the regular production line in 1974. Famously played by Tommy Smothers on The Smothers Brothers Show in the 1960s, it gained popularity and longevity over the decades and found its home in the hands of more contemporary artists such as Waylon Jennings, Billie Joe Armstrong and David Nail. The most anticipated return of a Guild acoustic yet, 2017's D-55 is back and better than ever. The D-55 remains faithful to all of the premium features of its 1968 predecessor, including a AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood bottom and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and nitrocellulose finish. Internal refinements include serrated Adirondack bracing and an improved dove tail neck connection, making this generation of the D-55 the lightest, loudest and best-sounding yet.

In July 2014, Guild began construction on a new, state-of-the-art facility in Southern California . The manufacturing equipment was shipped from the previous factory in New Hartford and brought into the new production facility. Ren Ferguson, a legendary luthier, has been named vice president of production and research and development. Ren Ferguson's experience with Guild and his many years of guitar building experience made him the perfect visionary to set up and design the new Guild factory. The instruments of the Guild USA series are now manufactured in this factory.

Guild is ushering in a new era of USA production . The interpretation of classic Guild designs through an innovative approach and the use of modern technologies ensures that these guitars feel and sound better than ever and are sure to be enjoyed by any serious guitarist.
