In the early 1960s, a new creative culture prevailed in Southern California, and Leo Fender was eager to design a new collection of acoustic instruments that captured the innovative spirit of the musicians around him. In collaboration with renowned luthier Roger Rossmeisl, Fender launched several acoustic models that embody the special musical character that made Fender a symbol of the rock 'n' roll revolution. These included distinctive headstock shapes, easy-to-play neck profiles, and a revolutionary design that would change the appearance of Fender acoustic models forever.
Today's Fender California models harken directly back to their mid-century origins, with a retro optics that offers a rich, modern sound - a true modern alternative with classic Fender tradition and distinctive Fender style. The Palomino's auditorium body features sound Performance An ergonomic, modern "V" profile was chosen for the Okoume neck , together with the solid body it ensures optimal sustain. A 6-in-line maple headstock provides a distinctive look, reminiscent of Fender's famous electric guitars.
Other notable details include the bound Ovangkol fretboard with pearloid block inlays for a retro look, Vintage-style tuners for precise tuning , and a bone nut and bridge for excellent intonation.
The integrated Fishman Sonitone Plus pickup system has controls that are easily accessible in the sound hole. A piezo on the bottom of the guitar can be combined with an internal body transducer to reproduce as faithfully as possible the natural sound of the guitar when connected to an amplifier or recording device.

Die California Traditional Gitarren sind in drei unterschiedlichen Varianten erhältlich. Die Player-Serie richtet sich eher an Einsteiger, überzeugt aber dennoch mit einem Korpus aus Mahagoni und einer massiven Fichten Decke. Die Classic- und Special-Serie richten sich an die Fortgeschrittenen unter euch. Dabei unterscheiden sich die beiden Serien hauptsächlich durch das Material der Decke. Bei der Classic-Serie ist diese aus massiver Fichte, bei der Special-Serie hingegen aus massivem Mahagoni. Die einzelnen Varianten sind zudem in drei verschiedenen Korpusformen erhältlich. Zum einen die etwas kleinere Malibu, das Mittelgewicht in Form der Newport und zuletzt die Dreadnought Redondo.
