Buy double cut electric guitars at session
Are you in the middle of buying an electric guitar and looking for a great alternative to Fender guitars? Are you into AC/DC ? Or do you like the sound and technology of the Single Cut, but it is too big or too heavy for you? Then you should include double cut models in your purchasing decision.
These are based on the Gibson SG , which was supposed to replace the Les Paul in 1961 and was initially called the Gibson Les Paul SG. By the way, the name stands for “ Solidbody Guitar ”, i.e. solid body guitar. A cutout on both sides of the body, called a “ cutaway ”, was used to give the instrument a more modern look.
As with the Paula , the body and neck of the SG design are traditionally made of mahogany and are glued together. The fretboard with a 628mm scale length is usually made of rosewood and, depending on the manufacturer, has 22 or 24 frets. However, the body is smaller and thinner and does not have binding and a glued-on maple top. This means that the instrument is a bit more reserved and minimalist in terms of optics , but is noticeably lighter and more manageable than a single cut . However, the equipment is identical. A fixed bridge, two humbucker pickups each with a tone and a volume pot and a three-way switches . There are also the “Special” models with P90 pickups or “Custom” with three humbuckers. The SGs of the early 1960s also featured a tremolo system, such as a Bigsby.
This model is of course inextricably linked to Angus Young from AC/DC, but Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath and the blues guitarist Derek Trucks also appreciate the higher-pitched and more direct sound of the horned guitar compared to the Les Paul.
While the terms Double Cut and SG - as well as Single Cut and Les Paul - were used interchangeably for a long time, another player entered the Double Cut market in the mid-1980s. The American guitar maker Paul Reed Smith released an instrument through his company PRS Guitars that combined the equipment and construction of the SG with the optical highlights of the Les Paul and the more elegant and curved appearance of the Stratocaster. These guitars quickly became very popular thanks to musicians like Carlos Santana and Peter Frampton and are now available in various versions, from the inexpensive SE model to the high-quality custom version with an elaborate finish .
But other manufacturers such as Yamaha , Ibanez and of course Gibson's subsidiary Epiphone also offer a variety of different interpretations and variations, such as Vintage or heavy models of the double cut guitar.
