About Noel Gallagher

In 1988 Noel Gallagher began a job as a roadie for the band Inspiral Carpets, after having unsuccessfully auditioned there as a singer. When he returned from a tour in 1992 he was surprised to find that his brother Liam had joined a band called Rain as singer. That group included some friends of the brothers, among them the future Oasis members Paul McGuigan and Paul Arthurs. A visit to a Rain gig quickly convinced Noel of Liam's charisma as a frontman. Because of Noel Gallagher's talent as a songwriter, Liam persuaded him to join the band. Noel agreed on the condition that he would become the sole bandleader and songwriter. Rain was renamed Oasis at Liam's insistence. That name comes from the venue of a Stone Roses concert in Swindon, the poster of which had hung on the brothers' bedroom wall during their childhood.
Until August 2009 he was the principal songwriter, lead guitarist and, behind his younger brother, the band's second singer in Oasis. At the height of Oasis' success in the mid-1990s Noel was the central figure of the Britpop movement. The second Oasis album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? was certified Platinum 17 times in total (!); 22 million copies of that longplayer have been sold to date. The most successful Oasis song is still Wonderwall with seven-times Platinum. In September 2008 the seventh Oasis album Dig Out Your Soul was released, again featuring six compositions by Noel. On the tour for that album he announced his final departure from the band in August 2009.

In 2011 his first solo album was released, titled Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, which is also the name of Noel's new live band. The album immediately reached the top of the UK album charts after its release. After many collaborative projects with other artists, including Jay-Z and Phil Collins, Noel Gallagher released his fourth solo studio album to date, Council Skies, in summer 2023, which climbed to number two in the UK charts.
He continues to shape the music scene, influences artists around the world and confirms his status as a true icon of songwriting.

It was recently announced that Oasis will embark on a major reunion tour in 2025, which of course will again feature Noel Gallagher as guitarist and his brother Liam as singer.

Before the beginnings of Oasis Noel had hardly any paid jobs, so he initially couldn't afford his desired red Gibson ES model and therefore bought a Epiphone Les Paul-copy and an Epiphone Riviera, with which the first two Oasis albums were recorded. However, through rapid success Noel became a collector of sought-after guitars, such as several Gibson ES and Les Paul-models, and later he also increasingly played a Fender Jaguar that he was given by Johnny Marr. With Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds he often reaches for a Fender Stratocaster, Jazzmaster or Telecaster, but his main guitar remains his Gibson ES-355 with Bigsby vibrato.
