Buying E-drums: How much does a set cost?
If you're after an affordable beginner set, prices start at €300. Electronic drum kits in the mid-price range are between €1,500 and €2,500. A very popular product in this price range is, for example, the TD-17KV from Roland. High-end pro kits include many cymbals and the most modern mesh pads. The sound modules are particularly powerful and offer extensive connection options. Prices in this category are over €7,000.
Which manufacturers make electronic drum kits?
Roland offers an extensive product range with its various V-Drums . Yamaha gets drummers excited with its DTX series. Both manufacturers have been part of this market for years and bring a lot of development experience. But Alesis and Pearl also offer products for purchase.
What does an electronic drum kit consist of?
When you order a set, a sturdy rack is always included in the delivery. Usually a crash and a ride cymbal, a Hi-Hat Pad, the Snare Drum Pad and typically three Tom Pads are mounted on it. Drumheads are sometimes offered as mesh heads . They feel more like an acoustic drumhead and provide improved trigger behaviour.
All individual components, such as cymbals, mesh heads, snare, hi-hat and bass drum pedal can be purchased separately if required. The cymbals are available in different inch sizes.
The E-drum sound module and the cabling are also attached to the rack. This avoids cable clutter when set up and everything looks tidy. To play the bass drum there is a kick pedal. The hi-hat is triggered via a separate hi-hat pedal.
Don’t be surprised that a bass drum like the one on an acoustic kit is initially hard to find. The heavy hardware stands for the cymbals are also omitted here. That brings a huge space advantage. An electronic drum kit can be set up very compactly and space-saving!
The high-priced E-kits mentioned come a bit closer to acoustic models. However, with the large shells the space-saving advantage is lost again.
Are products compatible with each other?
To avoid malfunctions and frustration, we advise against mixing set parts from different manufacturers. Once you've chosen a manufacturer and their product, future components should come from the same company.
You can of course freely combine your E-drum kit with percussion and e-percussion instruments. That's where you experiment and have fun!
Useful accessories for electronic drums
Without headphones or external speakers you won't hear your E-drums. Session offers a wide range of headphones. Many drum sets are available as bundles with headphones. You need sticks to play. Session offers the right drumstick selection online and in stores for every taste. If you travel a lot, protect your instrument with bags and cases for drums.
