Taylor American Dream

Taylor has taken the serious events of recent times as an opportunity to focus on the essentials and launch a guitar that meets the needs and demands of musicians in the current situation. The result is the American Dream series, named after the American Dream Guitar Shop where Taylor Guitars was founded in 1974.

These are the cheapest made in USA all-solid guitars in the Taylor catalog, which also feature the popular and much praised, patented V-Class bracing . When selecting wood, the company's bosses, Andy Powers and Bob Taylor, consciously opted for less exotic, partly unknown woods and a simple optics in order to underline the "workhorse" characteristics of the instruments.

Within the American Dream series , three Grand Pacific and Grand Concert models are offered, each of which is also optionally available with an Expression system 2 pickup system . A Grand Theater model has also recently been added.

The most important features of the American Dream series at a glance

  • top made of spruce or mahogany
  • bottom and sides made of walnut or sapele
  • solid construction / acoustic
  • V or C class bracing
  • Neo-tropical mahogany neck
  • Eucalyptus fretboard
  • Maple binding and rosette
  • Taylor Expression system 2
  • including Taylor soft case

If you are not sure which body wood provides the right sound for you, you will find a guides under the series overview that explains the different woods in the series .

Taylor American Dream Grand Pacific models

The Grand Pacific is Taylor's latest body shape and essentially corresponds to the well-known Slope Shoulder Dreadnought. Released in 2019 following the successful introduction of Taylor's innovative V-Class bracing design, the Grand Pacific represents a departure from what many consider to be the signature Taylor sound .

Taylor American Dream Small Body Models

You can choose between the already well-known and popular, compact and playable Grand Concert, which is equipped with the sound-enhancing Taylor V-Class bracing, or the smaller GT, which provides additional power in the bass range with the C-Class bracing.

Which wood is right for me?

This depends on several factors. You should note that the respective body and top wood determines the basic sound, but you can vary this greatly depending on your playing style and how hard you play. So be sure to get advice from one of our branches in Frankfurt or Walldorf if you are still unsure. You can get a first insight into the tonewoods of the Taylor 500 series here:

maple

Maple guitars are traditionally known for an assertive, focused tone with a fast decay. Taylor's maple guitars are designed to produce greater warmth, complexity, volume, sustain and response while retaining the natural characteristics of maple. The clarity of the high notes is still there, but the bass range has been expanded. The result is a multi-dimensional sound that offers the player the versatility of other classic tonewoods. A player with a dynamic playing style or someone who likes to vary their touch will appreciate how easily the guitar accommodates these playing nuances.

Fits well with most playing styles. Taylor's maple guitars suit a variety of playing styles well, replicating the guitarist's touch in great detail.

Sapele

An alternative tonewood that comes from Central Africa and has been used by Taylor for over a decade. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as African mahogany because it is very similar to the West African wood Khaya, which is known commercially as African mahogany. Sapele is a very sustainable, relatively fast-growing wood. In terms of sound, it offers everything that mahogany can do, just with a little more oomph in the highs. Due to rapid growth, Taylor Guitars will be able to offer this wood for a long time.

Fits well with almost all playing styles. Like Ovangkol, it is a great all-purpose tonewood that delivers a balanced, pleasant tone in a variety of playing applications, from fingerstyle to strumming.

Walnut (Walnut)

Walnut is another beautiful hardwood that has a similar density and stiffness to Koa and is also similarly initially hard. Like Koa, it tends to have bright overtones, but with a more present midrange, somewhere between mahogany and rosewood. Walnut also starts a little lower in the bass range, initially giving it a slightly woodier sound than Koa. The low end will continue to intensify after the recording.

Fits well for guitarists who like a mix of brilliance, projection and warm overtones. A smaller-bodied walnut guitar with a mahogany top would likely appeal to fingerstyle players, while flatpickers and strummers will find plenty of power, low tones, and crisp highs to support an aggressive attack on a larger-bodied guitar with a spruce top.

Models : AD17, AD12 and AD11
