Squier
Squier is a subsidiary of Fender for affordable entry-level electric guitars and electric basses and the only manufacturer legally permitted to make exact copies, particularly regarding the legendary headstock, of the major originals.
The history of the company Squier goes back as far as 1881. The English emigrant Jerome Bonapart Squier made violins in the USA following European designs, whose high quality soon became popular. The company soon began producing matching violin strings, and later strings for the newly emerging electrically amplified instruments. From 1950 Squier was the official string supplier for Fender and was acquired by them in 1965. To counter the huge flood of counterfeits from the Far East, in the early 1980s they began producing official and licensed copies of the most sought-after guitars such as Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster, Fender Precision Bass and Fender Jazz Bass in Japan.
Today the Squier Sonic Strat is the most affordable way to buy a Stratocaster guitar, often simply called a Strat, as faithfully reproduced as possible. The instruments from the Sonic Series have taken over from the in-house Bullet series with improved quality and higher performance features. The Sonic Series thus represents the new entry point into the Fender universe and is very popular with beginners thanks to its good workmanship, authentic sound and excellent playability. In the higher Squier Affinity Series you can find Stratocaster, Telecaster and P-Bass models in various popular colours as well as complete starter packs with amp, strap and cable. If you like Fender's vintage guitars but still want to keep an eye on the price, the Squier Classic Vibe Series comes highly recommended. Here you get the most popular Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Jazz Bass and Precision Bass instruments from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s with corresponding equipment, construction and finishes at great value for money. The Contemporary Series or Paranormal Series from Squier also include more unusual electric-guitar models aimed at modern and heavier music.
