PRS SE Swamp Ash Special
The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special is a unique model from the expanding PRS SE line and a revival of a popular PRS USA model, the Swamp Ash Special. With a swamp ash body and a 22-fret maple neck with a maple fretboard, the SE Swamp Ash Special offers a fresh design and a versatile tonal personality. Because of the choice of woods, the Swamp Ash Special is likely to appeal to players who previously felt less connected to PRS.
The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special ships in a well-padded, stylish PRS gigbag. The model is available in several colours, such as Iri Blue, Charcoal or, very classically, Vintage Sunburst.

The Swamp Ash Special is back
Until 2013 the popular USA Swamp Ash Special model was part of PRS's core range in various variants. Now the affordable SE version takes over the legacy of the Swamp Ash Special. The revived model is likely to impress not only PRS fans with its specifications: a swamp ash body with a bolt-on maple neck delivers the necessary punch and plenty of attack. The HSH pickup configuration, rare for PRS, enables a wide variety of sounds — the guitar shines both clean and overdriven across many genres and convinces with its distinctive look and tone.
Electronics and hardware
The PRS 85/15 "S" pickups flank a PRS-developed AS-01 single-coil "S" pickup in the middle position. The AS-01 single coil is made from both Alnico and steel — hence the name of Paul Reed Smith's new pickup creation — which adds extra mass to the pickup and contributes to a powerful sound. Paired with a push-pull tone control and a 3-way pickup toggle switch, this pickup and electronics package offers the guitarist a broad palette of sounds. Thanks to PRS's patented tremolo you can vary your sound as you like and expand the sonic spectrum. Overall, the PRS SE Swamp Ash Special delivers tight bass, clear yet warm highs and a welcome twang that suits "Hot Country," as well as blues and even jazz.
Unmistakably PRS
Aside from the wood choice, which is unusual for PRS, the look of the SE Swamp Ash Special unmistakably shows that Paul Reed was at work! It has the classic PRS-style body shape that has been a fixture in the guitar world since the 1980s, and the characteristic Abalone bird inlays and the shape of the headstock also identify the SE Swamp Ash Special as a PRS model. In terms of build quality, the SE instruments are by no means inferior to their US counterparts.
The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special on the soundcheck
The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special looks great with its PRS design and striking grain, but can the guitar's sound keep up with the looks? In the video on the left you can find out — the new guitar is demonstrated there by a real PRS pro. Give it a listen!
