About the blessing and curse of tube amps

Oh yes, tube amplifiers. Most guitarists probably agree that these are the only true way to give an electric guitar the necessary volume and for many people their sound is probably THE (acoustic) symbol of rock music. On the negative side, all-tube amplifiers usually weigh a considerable weight of around 20 kg, which always makes transporting them a real drag. Enter: the new Saint James series from Blackstar - the lightest 50 watt all-tube amplifiers in the world!

Technical relief

The series offers 1x12" combos, tops and the matching speakers. Both the combos and the tops are available as EL34 and 6L6 versions and weigh just 12.8 kg and 6.7 kg respectively! A key reason for the reduced weight , in addition to the casings made of Kemiri nut wood, lies in the highly efficient power transformers, which were developed over three years and are ultra-light thanks to the most modern components , but retain the sound and feel of classic iron core transformers. The combos and speakers come with it The Zephyr loudspeaker , specially developed with Celestion, is added. This delivers the sound and power of the popular classic Vintage 30, but with a fraction of the weight and without a neodymium solution.

Saint James is for everyone

The first channel is modeled on the popular clean sound of classic American amplifier from the 1960s. However, the second channel differs by model. The EL34 version impresses with the Vintage crunch that is classic for these tubes and offers a footswitchable +10 dB boost. The 6L6 version, on the other hand, delivers incredible gain reserves that should make every metalhead's heart beat faster. When you press the voice switch, the saturation is increased and the damper of the amplifier is reduced, resulting in a super fat sound .

Thanks to Blackstar's Cab Rig software, all Saint James amplifier can also be operated completely silently via XLR, stereo line out or USB , which is particularly advantageous for nighttime sessions or recording applications.
