The Halcyon Gold overdrive is a classic overdrive pedal based on a legendary pedal and features Origin Effects ' Adaptive circuit . This unique design allows it to adjust its tone in response to pick attack and volume changes, making it one of the most dynamic and interactive overdrives available. Origin Effects has gone to great lengths to recreate the famous mid-forward voicing and exact characteristics of the unattainable Vintage diodes, but they've also included some innovative features that go beyond the capabilities of the original.
The highlight of the Halcyon Gold overdrive is its ADAPT switch. This allows the mid-forward voicing of the pedal to be gradually faded out as the pedal becomes cleaner. This means you get a classic tone of the original when your guitar is turned up, but the full spectrum of your clean tone when you turn down the volume controls .
The DRY controls lets you adjust the amount of dry signal that makes up part of that classic drive tone. The DRY controls can be turned up to produce a powerful and defined sound when boosting a low- gain amp, or turned down to get the most out of the pedal's high- gain sounds , especially when using a clean amp . Orogin Effects has also improved the DRY path by changing the clipping characteristics when stacked with other pedals, giving you access to even more drive sounds .
The VOICE switches lets you choose either the classic mid-hump of the original or a smoother, more balanced tone. The KLN setting is simply standard voicing, while the MOD setting offers a wider mid-hump and a smoother, more compressed clipping characteristic. The MOD setting is particularly suitable for single-coil pickup and higher gain tones in conjunction with very clean amplifiers.
