The sound of the album Dookie in a pedal: the MXR Dookie Drive
Billie Joe Armstrong's guitar sound on the groundbreaking album Dookie by Green Day was dirty and punchy, with the perfect articulation to convey the originality of his fast, melodic riffs. He achieved this sound by running his signal through two heavily modified amplifiers — one with lots of gain and the other with pronounced mids. When it came time to mix the record, the band blended the two signals in different ratios to capture the vibe of each track.
Overdrive pedal based on Green Day's original amps
The MXR Dookie Drive pedal captures the sounds of those amplifiers in a single pedal, so you can dial in your own variations of the famous Dookie tone. Billie Joe's original amps were borrowed so the MXR team could carefully analyse all the tonal characteristics that make them sound so damn good. After extensive analysis and A/B testing, MXR's engineers rebuilt the amps from the ground up as pedal circuits and fitted them into a single enclosure. The High Gain and Crunch Gain sections each have their own controls, while the Blend knob lets you mix them together, just like Green Day did in the studio. If you want a bit more scoop in the midrange of the output, just press the Scoop switch.
