Discover the Jackson Pro Series Signature Lee Malia LM-87 in detail

About Lee Malia

Lee David Malia was born on 4 June 1987 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. He began learning the guitar at a young age with the help of his parents, who were also musicians. Lee listened to a lot of classic rock and metal as a child, from the Eagles to Dire Straits and Metallica, which inspired him to start playing guitar. He completed his schooling at Stocksbridge High School, where he met Oliver "Oli" Sykes and founded the band Bring Me The Horizon with him. Lee had previously been a member of a Metallica tribute band and a punk cover band.

Lee and Oli founded Bring Me The Horizon in 2004 together with bassist Matt Kean and drummer Matt Nicholls. After signing to UK independent label Visible Noise, the band released their first full-length studio album Count Your Blessings in 2006, which reached the Top 100 of the UK Albums Chart and the Top 10 of the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart. The follow-up Suicide Season from 2008 reached the top 50 of the UK charts and debuted at number 107 on the Billboard 200 in the USA.
After two further studio albums and hit singles such as Sleepwalking, Go to Hell, for Heaven's Sake and Can You Feel My Heart, the song Drown was released in 2014, which was the first song from Bring Me The Horizon to reach the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart and topped the UK Rock & Metal Singles Chart.

The band has released seven studio albums, two live albums and a remix album to date. The eighth studio album titled Post Human: Nex Gen has been released in 2024.

Lee's new best friend

Together with string wizard Lee Malia, Jackson has designed and built a very personal signature LM-87. A down-to-earth but sophisticated metal axe for solid heavy riffs and modern alt-rock creations. With its surfcaster body made of okume, the three-ply pickguard and chrome-plated hardware, the LM-87 exudes a casual vintage character. Classic design and modern features come together here. The thin, open-pore finish and discreet binding on the body and neck convey a warm, organic feel - but don't be fooled, this axe is as strong as a bear! The three-piece okume neck in D-profile has an amaranth fingerboard with binding and plays at lightning speed. Custom Jackson Signature pickups give the LM-87 an expressive voice. The bridge humbucker can be split using the push/pull function. The strings run over a TOM-style (Tune-O-Matic) bridge with a fixed tailpiece and mini tuners, which keeps the tuning stable even when playing wildly in drop tunings. The Jackson Lee Malia LM-87 was developed in close co-operation with the artist. Jackson's aim was to build a high-performance guitar that is easy to play and with which he can express his musical ideas perfectly, no matter how crazy they are. The result is a signature instrument with a stylish vintage vibe and modern features. A must-have for metalheads who like to play hard and heavy, but don't want to miss out on a soft, smooth playing feel.

About Jackson

Jackson Guitars was created when Grover Jackson took over the well-known company Charvel's Guitar Repair in 1978. The collaboration with the then Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads in 1980 resulted in the Rhoads body shape, which is still available today, and also marked the start of Jackson Guitars. The timing was just right because heavy metal was experiencing a heyday in the 1980s and the trend (started by Eddie Van Halen) was so-called super or power strats. These are guitars that are visually more or less based on the classic ST form , but are equipped with more modern and stylistically more suitable components such as humbuckers or Floyd Rose tremolos. Jackson soon earned a reputation as a forger of premium, American-built, high-end custom instruments that could be seen in the hands of many well-known guitarists of the time. With the musical changes of the 1990s, Jackson Guitars began opening factories in the Far East in order to be able to offer their instruments in cheaper areas. Since 2002, both Jackson and Charvel have been part of the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.
