Founded by master violin maker Karl Höfner in 1887 in Schönbach in a simple workshop, Höfner Guitars has developed into a true classic over its 120-year history. With a reputation for quality and innovation , Höfner soon became the largest German manufacturer of string and plucked instruments in Germany. Since the 1950s, Höfner jazz guitars have been an integral part of the European jazz scene's clubs and concert halls.
The Beatles bass
In 1956, Walter Höfner invented a semi-acoustic bass that could be electrically amplified, unaware that he was creating a cult bass. Paul McCartney bought his first Höfner “Beatle Bass” in Hamburg in 1961 and made him a legend.
Höfner today
In 1997, a new chapter in Höfner's company history began with the move to Hagenau to a new and modern production facility. Today, Höfner supplies high-quality classical guitars, jazz guitars and basses for guitarists and bassists with professional demands and the desire to play such an extraordinary instrument that it could soon become a sought-after collector's item.
