Discover the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V in detail

About Kirk Hammett

Even as a child and teenager, the young Kirk Hammett showed great interest in his older brother's extensive record collection, which included albums by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath , the Rolling Stones , Jimi Hendrix and UFO , among others. However, his biggest influence was Jimi Hendrix. After Kirk learned to play on a department store guitar at the age of 15, he switched to the Fender Stratocaster and then the Gibson Flying V. He joined Metallica in 1983 after his predecessor Dave Mustaine was fired from the group due to drug and alcohol problems. Shortly afterwards, Kirk recorded their first album Kill 'Em All with Metallica . To further improve his guitar playing, he took lessons from Joe Satriani himself. Although Kirk is primarily a solo guitarist, he has also been involved in songwriting since the '80s. One of his most famous riffs is of course the intro to Enter Sandman.

The jewel of an extensive collection

In addition to numerous achievements as a guitarist, Kirk Hammett has also made a name for himself as a guitar collector: He owns a collection of over 300 guitars, most of which were made by Gibson and ESP , including some real rarities. Both manufacturers have already released several signature guitars and accessories in honor of Kirk Hammett. A special gem from this collection has now been reissued by Epiphone and is available at an amazingly affordable price: the 1979 Flying V, one of Kirk's all-time favorite guitars and a copy of the Gibson original. The model is available in the classic Ebony finish or in Purple Metallic and is a must for all real Metallica fans.

Classic Metallica sound at a low price

Metallica fans around the world know Kirk Hammett's 1979 Flying V. It was Kirk's first Gibson and started his passion for Gibson guitars. When purchasing, he was inspired by famous Flying V players, whom Kirk admired because he was looking for a fuller sound . Kirk still plays the original guitar to this day and used it on all of Metallica's early albums, including Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All and The Black Album , making them one of the most important heavy metal guitars of all time. Now, Epiphone, in collaboration with the Gibson custom shop , releases the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V, a meticulous recreation of Kirk's prized original. It features a mahogany body, a one-piece mahogany neck with volute, Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with "Spade" buttons, and a custom bridge.

First class accessories and equipment

The electronics are also top notch, with a pair of Gibson USA Calibrated T-Type humbucker pickups wired with CTS potentiometers and an Orange Drop capacitor, as well as a Switchcraft 3-way pickup selector switch and 1/4" jack socket. A Kirk Hammett logo adorns the back of the headstock and completes the signature look. A luxurious black hardshell case with red plush lining is also included. It completes the overall picture and allows for safe transport to your next metal gig.
