Anyone who wants to buy an electric guitar will inevitably come across the term ST guitar at some point. This is probably the most iconic form of electric guitar. This is based on the Stratocaster from Fender and became famous in the hands of musicians such as Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Yngwie Malmsteen.
It first appeared in 1954, initially in the classic three-tone sunburst, as a successor to the Fender Telecaster . The body of the solid body guitar is made either from ash, but usually from alder. The neck of a typical 1950s Strat is made of maple, a 1960s has a glued-on rosewood fretboard . To this day, a Fender Stratocaster is also characterized by a screwed neck connection , a tremolo system and three pickup with a 5-way switches . The classic version has three single coil pickups , but there is also the type known as “HSS” configuration with a humbucker on the bridge . Other common variants are “HSH” or “HH” with two humbuckers and, in the first case, a single coil in the middle.
The main differences to Gibson guitars such as the Gibson Les Paul lie in the construction / acoustic and equipment , which are mainly made of mahogany and are characterized by a glued neck , two humbuckers and a fixed bridge .
Thanks to their modular design, ST guitars serve as an excellent basis for modifications and are therefore very easy to adapt to the player's taste and needs thanks to the large range of spare parts.
Today, many manufacturers such as ESP , Jackson , Ibanez or Charvel offer “pre-modified” models tailored to harder music, for example in a slightly modified form or with a Floyd Rose system and one or two humbucker pickups.
