The right keyboard stand

Which keyboard stand is right for me?

Since hanging keyboards are largely a thing of the past (the 80s called and wanted the keytar back) and the piano is ideally played while sitting down to achieve the best performance, there is no avoiding choosing the right keyboard stand for your keyboard instrument. So once you have finally decided on your stage piano or keyboard, the synthesizer or the organ or even several of the instruments mentioned, the next decision comes. Because in contrast to Nord, not all instruments have their own stand. For example, the legs of the bright red pianos from the Swedish manufacturer Clavia are screwed to the instrument , which follows in the tradition of the legendary electric pianos of the 60s and 70s, such as Rhodes, Wurlitzer & Co. Yamaha also offers keyboards for its keyboard -Flagship Genos with the Yamaha L-7B the right stand. All other keyboard players are spoiled for choice.

X-shaped keyboard stands

First of all, there is the typical X-shaped keyboard stand, such as the Stand Art keyboard stand X- form single brace or the König & Meyer 18962 keyboard stand black. These have the clear advantage that they can be flexibly adjusted in height and can therefore be used for both standing and sitting playing positions. The downside that is created by the X- form is that the stand becomes narrower the higher it is set. Especially with wide keyboards that protrude far beyond the support points on both sides, the structure becomes unstable, especially since the legs of the tripod are closer together. We therefore recommend these keyboard stands for instruments up to 61 keys.

The X-folding technology is a credit to the fact that the stand can be easily folded and transported. For keyboard players who travel a lot and have to transport, set up and dismantle their instrument including the stand often, we recommend models such as the StandArt single-braced keyboard tripod with quick-release fastener. As the name suggests, this stand is particularly easy to open and lock. The models 18930 and 18933 from König & Meyer should also be mentioned here. The König & Meyer 18969 keyboard stand for children is a special form, which is specially designed for small heights and is particularly easy to adjust.

Even though, according to the manufacturer, these can hold up to 50 kg, we advise against placing large and heavy instruments on these stands for the reasons mentioned. After all, expressive playing adds a whole lot more pressure - not to mention a wobbling stage floor caused by jumping bandmates. When it comes to internal stability for heavy instruments, double-braced keyboard stands provide a solution, such as the inexpensive Stand Art X- form double-braced keyboard stand, which is also available with a quick-release fastener. Ultimately, keyboard tables and stands with vertical braces offer greater safety for heavy keyboards and stage pianos.

Extendable keyboard stands

The extendable version, also known as a scissor stand, is characterized by an accordion-like metal structure between the vertical steel struts. This allows the width to be adapted to the instrument and thus ensures a secure support without wobbling. The vertical braces bring the weight directly to the feet , providing additional stability. The folding structure also has the advantage that the stand can be folded up to save space for transport. They are also adjustable in height to enable the player to have a comfortable sitting position appropriate to their height. With height settings of up to 97.5 cm, you can theoretically play while standing.

There are different price ranges from the Stand Art SKS05SA Keyboard Stand Black to the Euromet GSP Keyboard Stand or Euromet GSP Keyboard Stand Mini to the König & Meyer 18880 Keyboard Extension Table Black. The latter can be expanded into a double stand using additional trusses. At Euromet you can choose between different colors. The Euromet GSP keyboard stand trolley black with integrated wheels and fold-out storage area also serves as a practical transport aid for the instrument when folded.

The König & Meyer equipment stands 18825 and 18826 are, as the name suggests, not only aimed at keyboard virtuosos, but also at musicians and technicians who want to place a mixer, a monitor box, an amplifier or something similar on them. Thanks to the independently height -adjustable supports, loudspeaker or combo amplifier can be raised and tilted at the same time. This makes the device stands ideal for monitoring.

For heavy equipment: keyboard tables

An alternative to the extendable stands are our own session keyboard table Pro and the 18950 keyboard table and the 18953 stage piano folding table from König & Meyer . As the name of the latter product suggests, the four-legged stands can be folded up. This means that they are also suitable for transport, although tables are a little bulkier than the single-braced folding or X-stands.

The tables are generally designed for stage pianos and similarly sized keyboards with 73, 76 or 88 keys and therefore offer a wide support surface that can also be partially adjusted. The table distributes the heavy weight of up to 80 kg evenly across the four feet and thus ensures a secure stand. There are also differences in the depth, so the K&M table 18953 is designed for narrow digital or stage pianos. More important than the adaptation to the instrument is the adaptation to the player. The height adjustment of up to one meter also accommodates standing keyboard players, although the sitting position is of course the main application here. Another valuable feature is the expandability with the 18952 attachment for another keyboard.

The König & Meyer 18810 Omega keyboard table is an alternative. The robust stand consists of a fixed frame that is only adjustable in height . This makes it very stable. The distance between the two support arms can be adjusted to suit the instrument . In bright ruby red, for example, it fits perfectly with the Nord keyboards and has the advantage that it can also be expanded to accommodate a second keyboard or a laptop with the König & Meyer 18813 attachment (of course also available in black) (see also stand for two or even three keyboards).

Stand for two or even three keyboards

Keyboard players often play multiple instruments on stage at the same time. A stage piano combined with a synthesizer or an organ are common setups. Even though today's instruments are very versatile and laptops are also used on stage, several keyboards are often essential - and the laptop also needs a place.

In the studio or at home, it can make sense to arrange several keyboards on top of each other simply for reasons of space. Of course, for this purpose you also need the right multiple keyboard stand, such as the one from Jaspers Alu-Systeme. Even if the triple tripods with different widths give the impression of being immobile, they can be folded up and quickly dismantled and assembled.

The best-known representative of the multiple keyboard stands is probably the Spider Pro from König and Meyer. The lightweight aluminum column stand - also available in black anodized - offers two height -adjustable shelves, each of which can hold up to 35 kg. Another pair of support arms can also be attached to the 1.31 m high column in order to use a third instrument or to place the already mentioned laptop on it, because the Spider Pro can hold a total of 105 kg. You can choose between the 18865 support arms set A or set B with the number 18866, which differ in the angle of inclination. These can also transform the Baby Spider Pro into a double keyboard stand . At 99 cm height , this is slightly smaller and therefore perfect for seated players. The German manufacturer offers numerous extensions for the Spider models that even go beyond pure music applications.

The various keyboard and stage piano tables from König & Meyer can also be expanded with the corresponding attachment for a second keyboard. (See also keyboard tables). But that's not all: The stands and tables mentioned can be expanded with holders for microphones and tablets, laptop and music rests, among other things.

From keyboard stand to lectern: additions and accessories

In addition to transport bags, the manufacturer König & Meyer also offers all sorts of accessories and extensions for its keyboard stands. The 18950 keyboard table, the 18953 stage piano folding table and the Omega keyboard table can not only be expanded with additional support arms for a second keyboard. The König & Meyer 18817 universal holder for the Omega keyboard table also allows various accessories - such as swivel arm, gooseneck or tablet holder - to be attached to the thread type . The universal holder can also be attached to the tables 18950 and 18953 using the König & Meyer 18954 adapter . The König & Meyer 18956 microphone arm is also available as an extension for this. All three keyboard tables from the German manufacturer can also be equipped with the 18815 laptop holder.

The König & Meyer Spider Pro and Baby Spider can also be expanded: In addition to additional support arms, you can choose from the 18873 universal holder, the microphone holder with 3/8 + 5/8 inch thread or the 18868 laptop tray. If the latter is installed on the Spider Pro column, the 18872 extension tube offers the option of additionally attaching a microphone arm. Instead, the 18878 sheet music and concept holder can also be installed on the Spider Pro. And thanks to the 18877 lectern plate, which is placed on the support arms of the stand, the Spider Pro transforms from a keyboard stand to a lectern. If you have any further questions about keyboard stands, stage piano tables and the various expansion options, we are of course available to you in our branches and by telephone. Accessories that we do not carry can also be easily ordered from session .
