About Kanami Tono
Born in a city near Yokohama, Japan, Kanami began playing piano at the age of three. Although she took keyboard lessons for more than 20 years, she only found her calling when she saw a female guitarist performing for the first time. Inspired by this, she learned quickly and found herself playing in various genres: hard rock, Latin rock, funk, fusion. While at college, realising how difficult it would be to find bandmates of the same level and musical direction, she performed as a solo artist.
At that time Band-Maid founder Miku Kobato noticed the videos Kanami had posted on YouTube and tried to recruit Kanami for her band project. She would play lead guitar and would not have to sing — exactly the right criteria for Kanami. In the meantime Kanami has become one of the main songwriters of the all-female band. She also brought Akane Hirose into the band as drummer. Through Akane the musicians were introduced to bassist Misa, who Akane knew from music school. After a casting, Saiki Atsumi was added to the band. That's how Band-Maid was born.
Among Kanami's favourite guitarists are Carlos Santana and Larry Carlton. She credits Carlos Santana with inspiring her use of pentatonic scales in her lead solos.

Signature and high-end electric guitars by Kanami Tono
Kanami is a PRS fan through and through and plays a variety of models from the American manufacturer. PRS have also released her signature model, the PRS Kanami LTD Edition Custom 24-08 TJ, available in a limited run. Kanami also plays guitars from various manufacturers in the Modern ST style. All her guitars stand out for their colourful finishes and striking figuring. Here you'll find an overview of guitars like the ones Kanami plays:
Kanami's first signature — limited edition
The PRS Kanami Limited Edition is the first signature model for Kanami Tono of the Japanese hard-rock band Band-Maid. Kanami is the lead guitarist of Band-Maid and has been playing PRS for more than a decade. This limited edition is based on her latest PRS Custom 24-08 guitar and is fitted with PRS 85/15 humbuckers and PRS Brushstroke Birds as the inlay motif.
The PRS 85/15 pickups offer exceptional clarity and a wide tonal range. The two mini-toggle coil-tap switches enable powerful humbucker and crisp single-coil sounds in one instrument — a must when playing leads in hard rock and metal. Kanami's personal spec requests include a prominently figured quilted maple top, an ebony fretboard with Brushstroke Bird inlays and Smoked Black hardware. Kanami also chose the eye-catching finish: Trampas Green Smokeburst.
The PRS Kanami Limited Edition is ready for any gig and is delivered in the new PRS ATA Multi-Fit case.
This guitar is released in a limited edition and features Kanami's signature on the guitar's back plate. Only 200 pieces of the PRS Kanami Limited Edition will be available worldwide. Be quick!
“PRS has always been an essential part of the Band-Maid sound since I started playing the Custom 24. When I was thinking about the specs for my signature model, the control layout of the Custom 24-08 was the best choice as a base, because many Band-Maid songs require the high E at the 24th fret and I often switch between humbucker and single-coil sounds. As for the colour, I chose Trampas Green Burst — that's the colour of my first PRS, which I bought when I decided to become a professional guitarist with Band-Maid. One of my dreams, to have my own signature model, has come true, and I'd say this guitar is an evolution of my first PRS. It's a great honour!”
