The term percussion is derived from the Latin word percussio and means hitting. In today's language, the word percussion is also used as an umbrella term for various percussion, effect and rhythm instruments. If you start from "clapping your hands" , percussion is probably the oldest way of producing music known to us. Over time, the former clapping and knocking was increasingly enriched with small drums, simple percussion instruments and homemade rattles. The interaction served as an accompanying foundation for the cave singing. This development is still responsible today for the fact that percussion instruments in most cases complement the drums with additional rhythms. In larger bands you will often find a percussionist in addition to the guitar, bass and drums. Most percussions are played largely with the hands or special mallets.

The percussion instruments that you will find in our range come from a wide variety of cultures and are geared towards the local music. Of course, that doesn't mean that they can't be incorporated into a wide variety of musical contexts. All instruments, regardless of their origin, can be combined with one another, both in the Schlagwerk of a classical orchestra and in contemporary music productions. There are no limits to your own imagination and rhythm.

Most percussion instruments come from Central and South America . These include shakers , bongos and congas , as well as cowbells and maracas . The popular box drum - the Cajon - also has its origins in South America. Its traditional construction comes from Peru. But percussion instruments from Africa also have a great variety of sounds. The Darbuka and the Doumbek , for example, come from North Africa. These are metal drums with distinctive overtones that are particularly found in oriental music. From West Africa comes the djembe , a large, bulbous drum that produces a powerful and bass-heavy sound . Depending on language usage, percussion instruments are also categorized according to their origin. One often speaks of Latin, African and Oriental percussion .

In addition to the instruments already mentioned, you will also find other frame drums , triangles and tambourines , claves , blocks and glockenspiels as well as singing bowls , kalimbas and the increasingly popular handpans and steel tongue drums. We also have additional percussion accessories and special percussion sets for children for early musical education in our range. These musical instruments for children include colorful egg shakers and bell sticks as well as small hand drums and cajons.
