Memory
The built-in high-speed flash memory with its 1.75 GB (75% more than the previous models) now offers even more space for your own samples and synthesizer libraries. The memory enables lightning-fast write and read speeds and is available for both your own content and Yamaha libraries. We would particularly like to highlight the exceptional Bösendorfer Imperial Premium Grand Piano sound and the sounds of the legendary DX and TX series, which can be downloaded by all registered users on YamahaSynth.com via the free FM converter.
Sound
As with any instrument, the sound is naturally at the heart of it all. That's why the new MODX+ series uses the same technology that already sets the tone in the larger MONTAGE series. Inside, 128 voices are available for the stereophonic AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) and a further 128 voices for the FM-X synthesis (Frequency Modulation). Thanks to the unique MODX+ architecture, the maximum polyphony is 256 voices and is available at all times without performance limitations or latency.
Thanks to the Seamless Sound Switching function, sounds can even be changed during a performance without notes being cut off.
The AWM2 engine for authentic, organically sounding acoustic instruments includes 16 parts with eight programmable synths. These can draw on 18 different filter types, amplitude, pitch and filter waveform generators, nine LFOs, a 3-band EQ and a special dual-insert effect with Virtual Circuitry Modeling (VCM). The FM-X synthesis is similarly opulent. It combines the beloved '80s DX7 sounds with Yamaha's latest innovations, delivering an incredible range of dynamics, energy and life. The MODX+ FM architecture offers up to eight operators, 128-voice polyphony and various filters, providing broader capabilities than the original DX7.
The Motion Control technology additionally enables the creation of unique and constantly evolving sounds. A programmable matrix lets you play, mix and combine sounds dynamically.

Controls & Super-Knob
For better control while playing, especially in hectic live situations, both the modulation and the pitch-bend wheel have been rubber-coated. What also immediately catches the eye is the illuminated control in the centre of the workstation range. The so-called Super-Knob plays a central role in operating and creating sounds on the MODX+ series.
With a single hand movement you can simultaneously control up to 128 parameters. In practice this means that parameter functions such as volume, pan and effect sends, or detailed synthesizer parameters like filters, LFOs and operators, can be easily integrated into the controller mix. In addition, the Super-Knob can alternatively be operated with an FC7 pedal (optional). This allows sounds to be manipulated even while you're playing with both hands.
