Yamaha BB series

Fat sound in double B

For a few days now, it's actually been booming a little more than usual from the test rooms in our bass department and not only makes the walls shake, but bass players' hearts beat faster and deeper. This is due to the legendary Yamaha BB series, of which we are pleased to welcome a few new 4- and 5-string models to our range!

Camera! Light!! & Action!! !

Driven by his own euphoria, our bass man Marco grabbed the models and locked himself in our custom shop room with them and let off steam.

Cult for decades!

Who's surprised? When plugged in, the BB basses have been shaking the bottom on stages around the world for 40 years . The first BB basses rolled off the assembly line in 1977 in the form of the BB-800, BB-1000 and BB-1200 models and, with the slightly younger BB-3000, still enjoy cult status today . With their new edition, Yamaha are looking back to their early days and presenting us, in different series, with classic features with the unmistakable design of back then.

Which BB model suits you?

With the inexpensive basses from the 200 series you get unshakable workhorses that set the tone both in the rehearsal room and on stage. This is due to a solid alder body, a screwed maple neck with an 863 mm scale length and 21 frets, rosewood fretboard and two custom V3 ceramic pickup (1 x split single coil, 1 x single coil). In order to be as broadly positioned as possible, versatile bass sounds can be achieved using the passive electronics with two volume and one tone controls . But that's not all! The basses from the BB series also feel good. To improve the feel and comfort for both traditional and modern players, the basses have not only been given lighter tuning machines and a Vintage-style bridge, but also a thinner neck profile .

Compared to the 200 series , the basses from the higher BB series (700 & Pro) come with a 5-piece maple/mahogany neck , which is closer and tighter thanks to two additional miter screws (6-bolt-miter-neck-joint). is held on the body. The miter connection ensures a more efficient transmission of the string vibrations and, thanks to the stronger connection, leads to improved sustain and resonance behavior. In combination with the even lighter Vintage Plus bridge, which transmits the string vibration more reliably to the body thanks to the diagonal string guide of 45°, every note is automatically breathed even more life into it.

From the 400 series onwards, Yamaha has equipped their basses with Alnico YGD Custom-V5, and from the 700 and Pro series with Custom-V7 pickups. The perfect combination of the solid alder-maple-alder body of the top models and the custom pickups creates fat, organic BB Vintage tones. Incidentally, the basses from the 700 series are the only ones that have active electronics and a 3-band EQ. As a special highlight, the bass guitars from the Pro series were subjected to the exclusive IRA process (Initial Response Acceleration) . During this treatment, the individual components (wood, finish, neck, fretboard as well as body and hardware) are subjected to vibrations and are subjected to vibration. The bassist receives an already “rehearsed” bass and benefits from a rounder sound and better playability.

Yamaha BB series: Never the wrong choice!

Which instrument is best for you to choose is up to you. The only thing that is certain is that you get top-quality basses with high-quality components that provide you with organic Vintage sound on any stage - even if it's just your own living room. It's best to grab it now and bring home an iconic 4- or 5-string bass from the legendary Yamaha BB series today!
