Taylor 700 Series

Solid, exotic woods

The 700 series is home to select Hawaiian Koa and offers players a very different voice than Taylor's popular Koa series. Two models - the Grand Auditorium 724ce and the Grand Concert 722ce - offer a punchy response with a lively character compared to the smooth, refined sound of the Koa series models, a response that balances sparkling highs, shimmering mids and a rich Bass range develops and blossoms over time or with longer playing. Both models feature Taylor's patented, tone-enhancing V-Class bracing , which provides increased volume, longer sustain and improved balance. Features such as a rosewood binding, a rosewood/paua rosette, a new fountain inlay design, polished bronze tuning machines and a super-thin matte finish give the 700 series a natural, yet striking aesthetic , making these guitars look just as beautiful as they sound.

Both the 724ce and 722ce are crafted from beautiful, select Hawaiian Koa, producing a powerful sound that can deliver in any musical situation. The Builder's edition 717 features solid Indian rosewood paired with torrefied Sitka spruce for a warm, balanced sound.

Every 700 series guitar comes with a luxurious, deluxe brown hardshell case for reliable protection and safe transport, from the smaller Grand Concert guitars to the larger Grand Auditorium and Grand Pacific models.

Which wood is right for me?

This depends on several factors. You should note that the respective body and top wood determines the basic sound, but you can vary this greatly depending on your playing style and how hard you play. So be sure to get advice from one of our branches in Frankfurt or Walldorf if you are still unsure. You can get a first insight into the tonewoods of the Taylor 500 series here:

Koa

Koa is a dense tropical hardwood that combines mid-range focus with added brilliance and richness in the upper range. Koa's sound profile combines the mids of mahogany with the highs of maple. Because of its density , a new koa guitar will initially sound a bit bright, similar to maple. But the more a Koa guitar is played, the more the sound opens up, expanding the midrange and rewarding the player with a richer, sweeter, and more resonant tone. A common mistake is when a more timid player buys a Koa guitar partly for its visual beauty, finds it too bright, and doesn't play it enough to allow the wood to break in.

Works well for fingerstyle players who play more with their fingertips and tend to have a stronger touch. Players with a weaker touch can experiment with different pick materials to create a warmer tone.

Rosewood (Indian Rosewood)

As one of the most popular and traditional guitar woods of all time, rosewood fundamentally corresponds to the sound of mahogany and expands it in the high and low range. Rosewood sounds deeper and brighter in the highs, which are lively and articulate. The less pronounced midrange distinguishes rosewood from mahogany. In some musical circles, for example certain styles of Americana, rosewood has an iconic status. Like mahogany, rosewood is a versatile tonewood, which has contributed to its popularity. It is suitable for strumming, picking and flat picking.

Fits well with most styles. If you like a guitar with full bass and bright highs, rosewood is the way to go. Its ringing in the treble and clear articulation benefit players with "hard hands". If you're looking for a traditional sound , a rosewood Dreadnought or Grand Auditorium is for you.
