Which wood is right for me?

This depends on several factors. You should note that the respective body and top wood determines the basic sound, but you can vary this greatly depending on your playing style and how hard you play. So be sure to get advice from one of our branches in Frankfurt or Walldorf if you are still unsure. You can get a first insight into the tonewoods of the Taylor 200 series here:

maple

Maple guitars are traditionally known for an assertive, focused tone with a fast decay. Taylor's maple guitars are designed to produce greater warmth, complexity, volume, sustain and response while retaining the natural characteristics of maple. The clarity of the high notes is still there, but the bass range has been expanded. The result is a multi-dimensional sound that offers the player the musical versatility of other classic tonewoods. Maple guitars reflect the player's playing technique very well. A player with a dynamic playing style or someone who likes to vary their touch will appreciate how easily the guitar accommodates these playing nuances.

Fits well with most playing styles. Taylor's maple guitars suit a variety of playing styles well, replicating the guitarist's touch in great detail.

Koa

Koa is a dense tropical hardwood that combines mid-range focus with added brilliance and richness in the upper range. Koa's sound profile combines the mids of mahogany with the highs of maple. Because of its density , a new koa guitar will initially sound a bit bright, similar to maple. But the more a Koa guitar is played, the more the sound opens up, expanding the midrange and rewarding the player with a richer, sweeter, and more resonant tone. A common mistake is when a more timid player buys a Koa guitar partly for its visual beauty, finds it too bright, and doesn't play it enough to allow the wood to break in.

Works well for fingerstyle players who play more with their fingertips and tend to have a stronger touch. Players with a weaker touch can experiment with different pick materials to create a warmer tone.

Rosewood (Rosewood)

As one of the most popular and traditional guitar woods of all time, rosewood fundamentally corresponds to the sound of mahogany and expands it in the high and low range. Rosewood sounds deeper and brighter in the highs, which are lively and articulate. The less pronounced midrange distinguishes rosewood from mahogany. In some musical circles, for example certain styles of Americana, rosewood has an iconic status. Like mahogany, rosewood is a versatile tonewood, which has contributed to its popularity. It is suitable for strumming, picking and flat picking.

Fits well with most styles. If you like a guitar with full bass and bright highs, rosewood is the way to go. Its ringing in the treble and clear articulation benefit players with "hard hands". If you're looking for a traditional sound , a rosewood Dreadnought or Grand Auditorium is for you.
