Taylor 100 Series Walnut Models

When the Taylor 100 Series was first released, all guitars featured a laminated walnut body with a solid Sitka spruce top . Taylor's laminated wood construction for the bottom and sides consists of three layers of wood: a central core of poplar wood and a thinner layer of walnut wood on each side. The rich brown tones of the plywood give the guitars a pleasant aesthetic warmth. The special model 124ce even has a walnut top, which enhances both the tonal warmth and the beautiful look. Layered walnut provides a strong foundation for Taylor's 100 series , adding a subtle touch of luxury looks and midrange presence.

Taylor 100 Series Sapele models

Similar to the laminated walnut models, the wood of the sapele guitars is also layered. While the rich tones of solid wood remain unsurpassed, laminated wood construction can produce great sound in a beautiful, durable and affordable instrument . This is the case with layered sapele, where Taylor uses interior and exterior veneers of sapele with a core layer of poplar in between. One of the benefits of plywood for guitars is the added resistance to fluctuating temperatures and changes in humidity. Sapele provides an exotic look and a balanced, slightly high-pitched sound.
