After our collaborations with Fender and Gibson and the design of numerous high-quality, unique guitars, we at session decided — together with PRS Guitars — to launch our own session Select series with special specifications: the PRS Wood Library session Select Custom 24.
PRS Custom 24 with session specs
As the basis for our session Select models we used the Custom 24, the classic among PRS guitars. These models were of course designed in collaboration with our Custom Shop guru Olli Lohmann from the Frankfurt branch, and we've been eagerly awaiting the chance to finally get these special pieces into our hands. What makes a Custom 24
The Custom 24 is the quintessential PRS guitar. This iconic instrument was the first model Paul Reed Smith presented to the public at PRS Guitars' first Winter NAMM show in 1985, and has been a top seller ever since. The Custom 24 is played by international touring artists, musicians and up-and-coming guitarists. It features the patented PRS Gen III tremolo system and PRS 85/15 pickups with volume and tone controls and a 5-way switch.
What does Wood Library mean?
The Wood Library programme is similar in some ways to the Private Stock programme, as it is an elaborate, menu-based programme for the PRS Core guitar line that allows us as a PRS dealer to create special series for our customers. Unique, however, are the wood combinations we as dealers can assemble when ordering a series of instruments from the Wood Library. Take our Custom 24 model as an example. It ships as standard with a mahogany body, a maple top, a mahogany neck and a rosewood fretboard. For our series, though, we swapped the neck for flamed maple and the fretboard for Ziricote, leaving the body woods as on the original Custom 24.
Ten-top maple tops for an exclusive look
Only a very small percentage of the maples felled in North America are actually flamed. To achieve "10-Top" status, a PRS top must show a clearly defined figuring across the entire top. A guitar designated as a "10-Top" bears a small "10" on the back of the headstock in the upper right corner.
Flamed necks with Ziricote fretboards
For an especially refined look, our PRS Wood Library session Select guitars come with flamed necks that are lacquered to match the respective body finish. The fretboards are made of Ziricote, a wood that has similar tonal characteristics to rosewood but a different, more striking figuring. The headstocks are also veneered with Ziricote.
In 2024 PRS Guitars updated the tuners on the Custom 24. While the new wing buttons are aesthetically inspired by the Bird Wingspan inlays at the 12th fret, these buttons are lighter than their metal predecessors, so they remove less energy from the vibrating strings and help the guitar sustain longer and deliver a richer sound.
Pickups and tremolo
Our PRS Wood Library session Select guitars are equipped with PRS 85/15 humbuckers. These classic, open Custom 24 pickups offer remarkable clarity and extended high and low end and are perfect for more modern musical styles. The PRS Patented Tremolo Gen III features careful design characterised by tonal precision, ergonomic attributes and revolutionary tuning stability.
Eye-catchers in five exciting colours
The PRS Wood Library session Select Custom 24 is available in five exciting burst finishes: Charcoal Jade Burst, Charcoal Tri-Colour Burst, Charcoal Blue Burst, Charcoal Cherry Burst and Charcoal Purple Burst. There are two examples of each colour, and we photographed every single guitar individually for you. The guitar you see on the respective product detail page is therefore exactly the one you'll receive when you order.
