Innovations in instrument making from Salt Lake City
Cannonball was founded in 1996 by Sheryl and Tevis Laukat. Before that they had started optimising saxophones in their kitchen. This "Acoustic Customization" is still the basis for Cannonball's outstanding quality. Today they employ 25 people in Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as hundreds of staff in other countries, such as in the two workshops in Taiwan. Through their passion for building the best instruments even for the most demanding professionals and for creating high-quality beginner series, they developed the "Big Bell" for saxophones and other innovative designs in instrument making, for which they have filed around 30 trademarks and patents.
The popular saxophones they have successfully built for years are all acoustically optimised. These adjustments go far beyond the regulation of tone holes and the use of smooth-action valves and keys. This acoustic refinement of the instruments is what makes Cannonball special. After manufacturing in Taiwan the finishing is carried out not far from Salt Lake City in Sandy, Utah.
As a result, every Cannonball saxophone becomes a custom-shop instrument that "sings" and leaves nothing to be desired in terms of playability, response and projection. The instrument makers in Taiwan and Utah thus achieve craftsmanship of the highest quality, subjected to the strictest controls. In Utah the professional instruments are also hand-engraved. The goal is always that in the end it's hard to put the instrument down. It often happens that employees would rather keep the instruments themselves than sell them.
