The Taylor Custom GT C21e #44 in detail

The day before the annual NAMM Show, Taylor Guitars traditionally presents a series of custom guitars that are only available at the event at The Catch restaurant in Anaheim, California. Called "Catch Customs," these guitars are built to offer finishes, design options, tonewoods and specifications not normally available through Taylor 's custom order program. Each guitar is handcrafted from the highest quality materials in the Taylor custom shop in the USA.

Tonewoods

The Grand Theater, or GT for short, is Taylor's newest body shape. The Custom GT C21e #44 consists of a solid body made of Tasmanian Blackwood. Tasmanian Blackwood is a subspecies of the Acacia family, which also includes the Hawaiian Koa. The tonal profile of Tasmanian Blackwood is similar to that of Hawaiian Koa or Mahogany in the midrange - a little drier and clearer, but also warm - with an added touch of shimmer and brilliance in the high end, typical of Indian Rosewood. Its musicality suits a variety of body sizes and musical styles. Thanks to its exotic grain, it also looks great. It goes well with various playing styles, especially fingerstyle players who have a less powerful touch will appreciate the pleasantly clear sound of Tasmanian Blackwood

neck and fretboard

A classic ebony fingerboard rests on a slim, comfortable, patented Taylor neck made of neo-tropical mahogany, as you would expect from a Taylor guitar. The ebony for the fretboard comes from sustainable cultivation on Taylor's own plantation in Cameroon. The Belle Fleur inlays made from Paua give the guitar an exclusive look. The mahogany neck merges into a headstock with ebony veneer, and here too there is a Belle Fleur inlay made of Paua. Taylor's proven tuning machines in Satin Black ensure the right tuning .

Design highlights

The entire body of the Custom GT C21e #44 has a high-gloss finish, which takes the elegant optics of the guitar to a new level. The binding is made of black ABS plastic. The Custom Single Ring rosette is also made of Paua. A special design feature is the "Bound sound hole": The sound hole has been elaborately framed with a slim second ring made of black ABS.

Perhaps the biggest highlight, however, is the TaylorSense system : It monitors humidity, temperature, battery life and the stress on the guitar caused by external influences, such as shocks. In addition to monitoring the guitar's condition, TaylorSense also sends the data via bluetooth to the free TaylorSense mobile app, available for both iOS and Android devices, which sends push notifications when the guitar needs care.
