The Taylor Custom GS C16ce #30 in detail

The day before the annual NAMM Show, Taylor Guitars traditionally presents a series of custom guitars that are only available at the event at The Catch restaurant in Anaheim, California. Called "Catch Customs," these guitars are built to offer finishes, design options, tonewoods and specifications not normally available through Taylor 's custom order program. Each guitar is handcrafted from the highest quality materials in the Taylor custom shop in the USA.

Tonewoods

The Custom GS C16ce #30 features a Grand Symphony body with a Lutz spruce top and a Koa body. The Lutz spruce is a natural cross between Sitka and white spruce and also has characteristics of the Adirondack spruce (American Norway spruce). It combines the best properties of all types of spruce to create a harmonious, balanced and voluminous overall sound. Koa is a dense tropical hardwood that combines mid-range focus with added brilliance and richness in the upper range. Koa's sound profile combines the mids of mahogany with the highs of maple. Because of its density , a new koa guitar will initially sound a bit bright, similar to maple. But the more a Koa guitar is played, the more the sound opens up, expanding the midrange and rewarding the player with a richer, sweeter, and more resonant tone.

neck and fretboard

The slim, comfortable to play, patented Taylor Neck, made of neo-tropical mahogany, has a classic ebony fingerboard as you would expect from a Taylor guitar. The ebony for the fretboard comes from sustainable cultivation on Taylor's own plantation in Cameroon. The Running Horses inlays made from Canadian Hard Rock Maple and Hawaiian Koa wood guarantee orientation on the fretboard and ensure a particularly high-quality look. The mahogany neck flows into a headstock with ebony veneer on the front and back and a simple Taylor logo inlay made of koa wood. Taylor's gold-plated tuning machines with ebony buttons, which perfectly underline the design of the guitar, ensure the right tuning .

Design highlights

With the strikingly flamed Hawaiian Koa body and the Running Horses inlays, the Grand Symphony C16ce #30 attracts everyone's attention. The high-gloss finish brings out the flaming of the wood to its best advantage. The binding is also made of koa wood. The custom single ring rosette is made of koa wood with a black and white border. A special design feature is the Soundport cutaway, which noticeably improves the projection when playing and makes it easier to grasp the higher notes.

Perhaps the biggest highlight, however, is the TaylorSense system : It monitors humidity, temperature, battery life and the stress on the guitar caused by external influences, such as shocks. In addition to monitoring the guitar's condition, TaylorSense also sends the data via bluetooth to the free TaylorSense mobile app, available for both iOS and Android devices, which sends push notifications when the guitar needs care.
