The Taylor Custom GC 12-Fret #13 in detail

The day before the annual NAMM Show, Taylor Guitars traditionally presents a series of custom guitars that are only available at the event at The Catch restaurant in Anaheim, California. Called "Catch Customs," these guitars are built to offer finishes, design options, tonewoods and specifications not normally available through Taylor 's custom order program. Each guitar is handcrafted from the highest quality materials in the Taylor custom shop in the USA.

Tonewoods

The Custom GC 12-Fret #13 impresses with a very special tonewood pairing: a top made of red cedar (Western Red Cedar) and bottom and sides made of high-quality, popular Honduras rosewood. This combination ensures a balanced tone with a lot of warmth; the cedar top offers a quick response despite the soft sounds . Fingerstyle players in particular will enjoy the sound and feel of the Custom GC 12-Fret #13; the smaller Grand Concert body is perfect for many different picking styles. No matter whether you play hard, medium or soft, the Custom GC 12-Fret #13 adapts perfectly to any style.

A classic ebony fingerboard sits atop the slim, comfortable-to-play, patented Taylor neck made of neo-tropical mahogany with a 44.45 mm (1 3/4") nut width . The ebony for the fretboard comes from sustainable cultivation on Taylor's own plantation in Cameroon. The eye-catching Spring Vine inlay is made of Big Leaf Maple and extends over the entire fretboard. Side dots have been attached to the edge of the fingerboard for better orientation. The neck goes into a headstock also made of mahogany with ebony veneer and Spring Vine inlay made of maple. The tried and tested Gotoh 510 tuning machines with matching Antique Gold buttons and an ultra-precise 1:21 setting ratio ensure the right tuning .

Design highlights

The dark Indian rosewood binding stands out wonderfully from the lighter Honduras rosewood. It also stands out very well from the rich reddish-brown Western Red Cedar top thanks to two light decorative stripes. The Roman Leaf rosette features ornamentation made from Big Leaf Maple and Indian Rosewood. Another visual highlight is the "Bound sound hole": the edge of the soundhole has been elaborately framed with a second ring made of rosewood. The matt finish brings out the colors of the wood to its best advantage, and the bottom and sides were also painted in a shaded edge burst, as is known, for example, from the Koa models of the Taylor 200 Deluxe series .

Perhaps the biggest highlight, however, is the TaylorSense system : It monitors humidity, temperature, battery life and the stress on the guitar caused by external influences, such as shocks. In addition to monitoring the guitar's condition, TaylorSense also sends the data via bluetooth to the free TaylorSense mobile app, available for both iOS and Android devices, which sends push notifications when the guitar needs care.
