The electric guitars of the Suhr Modern series are of course unmistakably based on the models of the Suhr Classic S and Classic T series. However, a few modern details have been added to the guitars: Instead of Vintage , the pickups sound much more modern and harder than those of the Classic series, and the design also focuses on modernization. The fingerboards are flatter and therefore perfect for fast, complex solos. The guitars have a simple yet convincing, modern optics with flamed tops or in a plain finish with matching headstock and bindings in contrasting colors. Every Suhr Modern electric guitar comes in a luxurious, padded deluxe gig bag.
In the early 1980s, John Suhr, who regularly played guitar in local bars and was a skilled craftsman, began building electric guitars and searching for the perfect sound to his ears. He started working at Rudy Pensa's Rudy's Music Shop, which is still known today for its high-quality guitars. The collaboration was a huge success, under the name "Pensa Suhr" John Suhr built electric guitars for Mark Knopfler, Reb Beach, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Steve Stevens and many more.
In 1995, John Suhr first joined the Fender custom shop as a senior master builder before fulfilling his lifelong dream in 1997 and opening a small guitar factory in California with his newly founded company Suhr Guitars. John already had a growing fan base, especially professional guitarists such as the aforementioned Reb Beach and Mark Knopfler continued to be his customers and attracted new prospects. For the first time, John Suhr had full control over the entire manufacturing process. After completion, the guitars are still checked down to the smallest detail. Due to high demand, the small factory has now grown many times over.
Today the name Suhr Guitars from Lake Elsinore, California not only stands for top-class pickup and guitar amps, but above all for custom shop electric guitars and basses that not only score with the highest quality workmanship, the best woods and sound , but above all in design. The professional artists have also remained loyal to Suhr and so, in addition to the standard lines, there are also numerous signature instruments, including those from Andre Nieri, Andy Wood, Mateus Asato and of course Pete Thorn.
