Fender Mike McCready Stratocaster RW 3TS
The Fender Mike McCready Stratocaster in detail
About Mike McCready
Mike McCready began playing guitar at the age of 11. In eighth grade he joined a cover band. After the band broke up he stopped playing guitar for a while and started studying. A friend, however, convinced him to return to music. In 1990 he founded the band Pearl Jam with his schoolmates Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. The debut album Ten brought the band into the mainstream and became one of the best-selling alternative albums of the 1990s. Mike McCready often appeared as a soloist and gave Pearl Jam's music a bluesy touch. He plays by ear and is known more for his feel than for virtuosic technique. The single Jeremy was nominated in 1993 for the Grammy Award in the categories Best Rock Song and Best Hard Rock Performance. For the music video to Jeremy, Pearl Jam received four awards at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards. On Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, Ten was placed at number 207 and Jeremy reached number 11 on the list of the 100 greatest songs of the '90s. Mike can now look back on a long career encompassing ten studio albums.
A true grunge icon
The Fender Mike McCready Stratocaster captures the unmistakable sound and timeless spirit of one of the longest-lived and most influential rock bands. After a Custom Shop Stratocaster, the Mike McCready Signature Strat is already Mike's second Signature model from Fender. This Stratocaster was recreated in every detail from Mike McCready's favourite instrument — a 1960 Stratocaster in 3-Tone Sunburst — developed in collaboration with the Pearl Jam guitarist, and is the ultimate all-purpose weapon for any guitarist who wants to rediscover the incredible power and the legendary, electrifying tone of a true '90s grunge guitar icon.
The pickups
The Fender Mike McCready Signature Stratocaster is fitted with a newly designed set of Fender Custom Mike McCready '60s single-coil Strat pickups. These custom Strat pickups deliver the characteristic bell-like, articulate sound Mike is known for. They are designed and voiced to precisely reproduce the Stratocaster tone of the single-coils in Mike's original instrument. So whether you're a Pearl Jam fan, playing in a cover band or simply want the authentic '90s grunge sound for your living room or home studio, the Mike McCready Strat provides the perfect tone.
As close to the original as possible
The Mike McCready Stratocaster features a hand-applied Heavy Relic road-worn finish on an alder body that recreates the wear and damage Mike's Strat acquired over three decades of gruelling, sold-out tours and legendary performances. The comfortable slab rosewood fretboard with a 9.5" radius on a slim C maple neck is shaped to match McCready's cherished 1960 Stratocaster, while the aforementioned Custom Mike McCready Strat pickups are voiced to exactly reproduce Mike's vintage single-coils for the same characteristic tone. The vintage-style synchronized tremolo, bent steel saddles and cold-rolled steel block guarantee the purest Fender tone and top performance. For the perfect signature feeling, the back of the headstock is adorned with Mike's signature.
