The Tim Armstrong Hellcat Checkerboard in detail

The strikingly painted Hellcat Checkerboard is Tim Armstrong's fourth signature guitar and the third from Fender. In addition to the Hellcat Natural and the Hellcat 12-String, the American punk guitarist also had a Gretsch Country Club tailored to his body, which is based on his heavily worn original from 1971.

About the artist

Tim Armstrong initially played in the punk and ska band Operation Ivy and in several other bands before forming Rancid . While Armstrong was more of a guitarist at the beginning of his musical career, this changed when Rancid was founded in 1991, as he took on the position of frontman for the first time. In this position he began to write a large part of the song's lyrics himself. His songs are characterized by a very metaphorical writing style, especially in the first Rancid lyrics, Tim deals with formative experiences, difficult periods of life and how to process them.
Tim Armstrong now owns his own music label and plays with Travis Barker and Rob Aston in The Transplants . In 2006 he released the solo album A Poet's Life on his own label. Tim Armstrong is also a songwriter and has written songs for Pink and Gwen Stefani, among others. It is noteworthy that the left-hander prefers to play right-handed guitars with the strings wound upside down.

The Hellcat

Despite all his versatility, he is very purist when it comes to composing; he prefers to play his old acoustic Fender concert guitar. Tim Armstrong's worn-out, old Fender acoustic guitar from the 1960s, on which he writes all the songs of his legendary punk band, served as the model for the Hellcat. Named after Tim Armstrong's music label, the Hellcat is based on Tim's beloved classical instrument, but has received modern upgrades to make it more stage-ready: a solid spruce top, a satin finish on the maple neck, and high-quality electronics. The guitar sounds powerful, sweet and clear, is easy to play and is suitable for pop, rock, folk and many other styles. Unlike Tim's personal guitar, this Hellcat is designed for right-handed players.

Tim gave his old acoustic guitar a few cool touches - like the pearl-effect acrylic Hellcat logos on the 3rd, 5th and 7th frets and the two skulls that adorn the 12th fret. Other specials include the solid mahogany top , scalloped X-bracing, Fishman CD-1 pre-amp and Tim Armstrong's signature on the truss rod cover. The striking checkerboard finish is a first on the Fender color palette and was designed at Tim's personal request. The Tim Armstrong Hellcat Checkerboard is waiting to be rocked!
