Learn more about Fender American Vintage II 72 Telecaster Thinline

The Fender American Vintage II series is not only visually inspired by the historic designs that made music history. Fender has also reproduced many details typical of the era exactly: Bodies, necks and hardware, premium finishes and pickups that are carefully matched to the tone of the original model year. Thanks to traditional Fender craftsmanship, each instrument embodies the authentic character and sound of the original model.

The Telecaster Thinline celebrated its premiere in July 1968. The semi-hollow design made it possible for Fender to build a lightweight instrument from the relatively heavy ash wood. At the end of 1971, the new creation was given an expansive pearloid pickguard with two wide range humbuckers. By 1972, the second generation Telecaster Thinline had successfully completed its first year of production. Incidentally, it was the first six-string Fender instrument with humbucker pickups and the first Tele with six individually adjustable string saddles. The American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline has the same sound, look and feel as the original.
The hard rock maple neck with a 7.25’ fingerboard radius and vintage tall frets is fantastically comfortable to play. The sound of the American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline also spoils even the most demanding players, as the humbuckers are fitted with our original CuNiFe magnets. Also typical of the 1972 production year are the ‘bullet’ neck setting and the triple-bolted neck plate with micro-tilt mechanism, the tuners with F-embossing and the string-through-body bridge with six bent steel string riders. The semi-hollow ash body is available in Aged Natural, 3-Colour Sunburst and Lake Placid Blue.
