All about the Fender American Vintage II 66 Jazz Bass
The Fender American Vintage II series is not only visually inspired by the historic designs that made music history. Fender has also reproduced many details typical of the era exactly: Bodies, necks and hardware, premium finishes and pickups that are carefully matched to the tone of the original model year. Thanks to traditional Fender craftsmanship, each instrument embodies the authentic character and sound of the original model.
Don Randall at Fender Sales didn't want to rest on the success they had achieved. He pushed for the development of a modern high-end bass. The result was the Jazz Bass, which is now considered an icon. The neck was narrow at the nut, making it fast and smooth to play. The body was also slimmed down and was given the famous ‘shifted’ offset waist and the contours of the Jazzmaster. In 1966, the evolution of the instrument had reached its peak. The American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass Left-Hand offers plenty of substance for the fretting hand with its hard rock maple neck in a strong U-profile. Vintage Tall Frets sit on the 7.25" Round Lam rosewood fingerboard. The white neck binding, pearloid dots, ‘lollipop’ tuning pegs, two volume controls with Master Tone, a matching lacquered headstock and the four-ply tortoiseshell pickguard are typical of the 1966 production year for this J-Bass®. The strings run over four threaded string saddles and the sound is provided by two Pure Vintage ‘66 Jazz Bass pickups.
