Buy travel guitars at session
You're often on the move and don't want to miss playing guitar while travelling or on holiday? Then compact travel guitars are the right choice for you. The advantage of these “smaller” guitars is obvious. Travel guitars are more compact and handy than conventional models and therefore take up much less precious space. And let's be honest, especially when you're backpacking, space on a trip can quickly become scarce.
When buying a travel or hiking guitar you should still pay attention to good sound. After all, what's the point of taking a guitar on holiday if you don't like the sound. Of course you have to make a few compromises. You shouldn't compare the sound of your portable travel guitar to the sonic range of a grand concert guitar. This is mainly due to the smaller resonant body, or body, and the shortened scale length — precisely the characteristics that qualify a travel guitar as such.
A travel guitar should be handy and easy to carry. The lower the instrument's own weight, the better. In most models only the top is made of solid wood. Over time many different variants have appeared on the market. These range from foldable and take-apart travel guitars to shrunken mini-guitars such as the Guitarlele. Whether they are equipped with or without a pickup system is a matter of personal taste. Among the best-known is certainly the Martin Backpacker guitar. Its name has become a meaningful generic term for all travel or hiking guitars. If travel guitars still feel too big for you, you might consider getting a more compact ukulele.
If you spend longer periods on the road with your guitar and often stay in or travel through different climates, you should make sure that the guitar has an adjustable truss rod. Guitar necks warp particularly quickly in very warm or cold temperatures and in environments with changing humidity.
When choosing your guitar-2-go, you should also pay attention to whether the guitar is strung with steel or nylon strings. Nylon strings have the advantage that they don't corrode as quickly. They are less susceptible to corrosion compared with steel strings. In the end it's a matter of sound and taste.
The great thing about travel guitars is that most models are supplied with a padded gig bag including backpack straps. That makes setting off on holiday particularly easy.
